Burning The Ground Exclusive 1986
NEW 2021 Transfer!
NEW Meticulous Restoration!
I originally posted the U.S. 12″ way back in July 2012 that single contained four tracks at 33 RPM which I always thought lacked a bit of dynamic range since the tracks are a bit more compressed onto the record. This time around I decided to give the 45 RPM pressed Japan 12″ a new restoration/transfer I had posted it in 2011 but removed it after posting the U.S. 12″ in 2012 sonically I think it sounds much better giving each mix its own side to stretch out its grooves.
I hope you guys enjoy this new transfer.
“Brand New Lover” is a song recorded by the British band Dead or Alive. It was the lead single released from the band’s third album, Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to Know on Epic Records. It achieved international success when released as a single in 1986.
The lyrics describe the singer’s desire to leave his current partner for one who is more exciting. His motivation is that he admittedly does not desire a stable relationship with one partner, but rather is “a pleasure seeker.”
The song proved to be more successful in the U.S. and in Japan than in the band’s native UK, where it reached number 31. In the US, “Brand New Lover” peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (The band’s second and last single to reach the top 20), and spent two weeks at #1 on the American dance chart in December 1986.

That’s a shame this one had to be pulled. Or a shame for me I didn’t see it in time to grab while it was hot. As usual the naming eludes me, what is an Up Ducky, a reference to ducks flying off in mating season? All these titles remain meaningless to me as they were when I was young. But, I’ve got the The Dust Monkey’s Love Bubble Club Mix on 12 inch at home, so would have liked a digital copy. Between the two I think it’s the best with an awesome guitar solo leading into it. There… Read more »
the link is gone 🙁
Sorry I had to remove it.
WHY? 🙁
It is great when you remaster these Dead Or Alive twelve inch tracks, I like your versions better than the record companies. Very catchy lyrics that linger on your mind and a similar beat to You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), great for the dancefloor. I remember Pete Burns on Celebrity Big Brother UK, 2006, he was very entertaining, I thought he would’ve won, he came 5th Place. Another fantastic post Paul. Have you got The Style Council – Promised Land 12″ ? A1 Promised Land (Longer Version) A2 Promised Land (Pianopella Version) B1 Can You Still Love Me?… Read more »
Hi Paul, It’s always good to go back to the classics. I thought your other rips were fine. But it’s always good to have an improved transfer, although I would prefer something new. ha ha. Anyways, as he said ‘i want surprises’, maybe you will surprise us with more in the future. i love dead or alive, but i wonder about the future. will they ever release the remasters separately. will they ever come out with a boxset of their singles on CD, like many other groups. come on, belinda carlisle, banarama, kim wilde, paul young, all get them. why… Read more »
All of the Dead Or Alive remasters and box sets have been such a disaster one mistake after another. Maybe next time they will give someone like me who cares about the end results a call. I hope you doing well. Have a great weekend 🙂
Yes, superfans were called in to fix the boxsets. So of course, they will be using the corrected masters. But in any case you would do a much better job than they would. So maybe someday in the future. But like I said, you’ve already done a lot of the transfers for us already. So in that way, you’ve saved us a lot of time and money. But I would give it to band and label if they were to do it properly.

Both founding members are passed away now Pete Burns and Steve Coy so they would not be able to have any input into future releases. Labels like Edsel who put out the box set should have had better quality control in the first place. But it is all water under the bridge now.
Great song of theirs, I LOVE the video also. Thank you Paul!
You’re welcome, Modernaire 🙂
I missed this first time around. Loving these DOA posts on here.
Thanks Paul 🙂
Glad to hear that Mark. Have a great weekend 🙂
THANK YOU for re-posting this great song!
You’re welcome, Bill 🙂
It´s such a fun song that puts me in a good mood from the first second. Cannot believe that it didn´t chart at all over here. And then again, only three original DOA singles did (Spin Me Round paeking at #2, Lover Come Back #21 and In Too Deep #61). I just love BNL with the 5’18 album version being my favourite edition although I love the remixes, too.
Thank you, Paul. Oh, I nearly forgot: the sound is brilliant.
Have a wonderful weekend, Paul and Jeff and the whole BTG family. 🙂
I hope you safe Song And Dance. Enjoy your weekend 🙂
“I Want Surprises!” And we do get them with you Paul!! Can’t wait to hear this quality rip from the Japan pressing. I am thrilled how you always strive for the best sounding vinyl rips around. So excited to hear “The Dust Monkey’s Love Bubble Club Mix” as that, along with its title, was the best version of the song, in my own opinion. You Paul are a celebration in and of yourself!! I hope you have a terrific weekend along with the rest of the community here!!
Jeff
My favorite is the “Up Ducky Mix” because it gets right to the point love the energy of the mix. Have a great weekend 🙂
Paul, always appreciate your perfection take on things.
Thank you Steven 🙂
