Dalis Car – The Judgement Is The Mirror (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

A. Front

REQUEST

Dalis Car was a musical group formed in 1984 by Peter Murphy (vocalist), Mick Karn (bassist, keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist) and Paul Vincent Lawford (rhythm construction). The band was formed soon after Murphy and Karn left their former bands (Bauhaus and Japan, respectively). They took their name from a Captain Beefheart song from his album, Trout Mask Replica. Initially, they recorded one album, The Waking Hour (UK No. 84), and released one single, “The Judgement is the Mirror” (UK No. 66).

The recording of the album took place in unusual circumstances, as neither Karn nor Murphy spent much time together in the recording studio, preferring to send tapes back and forth between each other, to work on alone.

Awesome, always good to hear records more in the New Wave/Art Pop side. If you liked Dali’s Car, you’ll love Fiat Lux.

Never got round to buying this single back in the day, but I’ve wanted to hear those B-sides for over 25 years. Thanks Paul 🙂

This is fantastic, always been a huge Japan fan, and this is a great addition to the extended Japan collection. Would love to see some Japan, if you have.
Thanks for this great track, you have an excellent site, have been following it for some time.

So looking forward to hearing this piece of music. I am familiar with the group, only by name (I guess it’s because of the name, which Dali, reminds me of the artist). Thanks for putting this out and making the person who requested it very happy. You are an angel granting musical wishes Paul.

Kind regards as always,

Jeff

I was not aware of this before but it’s great to hear it.

Pity it wasn’t a bigger hit.

Thanks Paul 🙂

Just informing: Paul, I don’t know if it’s because of you, but some formerly dead download links from the “Madonna” cathegory, are now alive and kicking.
In a minute I’ll check what Dalis Car is about.

Buenas noches

Good choice & well done. Worth checking out the posthumous Dalis Car ep InGladAloneness finsished by Peter Murphy & Steve Jansen of Japan after Mick passed away.

And as Omar say, ‘Buoy’ is a fantastic piece too.

Thanks Paul. Mick Karn (RIP) was a genius. I also love his collaboration with David Sylvian on the single Buoy.

Wow. You’ve knocked me senseless with this one, Paul! To at long last have a proper digital copy of this 12″ is a dream come true! I’d been hoping that Beggars Archive would get around to an expanded reissue of the Dalis Car material, but that’s less necessary now.

Thank you so very much!

I just did all my conversion (ALAC) and tagging and this now sits proudly next to my other Dalis Car titles in my digital library. Funny thing is, unlike why I usually come here there’s no fabulous extended remix, just a couple of oh so obscure little instrumentals that have only seen light of day from the occasional spin of my 12″.

If Beggars ever get around to a definitive Dalis Car release, they need look no further than your work here for these tracks! 🙂 Bravo!
