Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 (86 Remix) (Europe 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1986

“25 or 6 to 4” is a song written by American musician Robert Lamm, one of the founding members of the Rock band Chicago. It was originally recorded in 1969 for their second album, Chicago, with Peter Cetera on lead vocals.

An updated version of “25 or 6 to 4” was recorded for the 1986 album Chicago 18 with James Pankow listed as co-writer, and new band member Jason Scheff on lead vocals. It featured two verses instead of three. The single reached number 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Single’s Chart. This version was also used as the B-side for the band’s next single in 1986, “Will You Still Love Me?”

The music video for the 1986 remake won an American Video Award, in the Best Cinematography category, for Bobby Byrne.

Thanks so much for this rip. As a longtime David Foster / Chicago fan, it’s interesting that the 25 Or 6 To 4 is listed as an ’86 Remix’. It isn’t a remix – it’s a full remake. Also, for those interested – all of these are the standard album versions that appeared on the album Chicago 18 (and Chicago 17 in the case of Hard Habit To Break). Both albums had David Foster as producer and Humberto Gatica as engineer – and both won Grammys for their work on 17. For my money Chicago 17 ranks as one of… Read more »

I don’t think I’ve ever heard or seen this video. Interesting, maybe you brought this record from an alternate timeline. It really does have that ultra 80’s vibe. Speaking of alternate timelines, I “remember” as a kid hearing Chicago’s version of The Beatles “Got To Get You Into My Life” which I thought was a single on their mid 70’s greatest hits, only recently I discovered was not on their greatest hits, or actually any of their albums…. apparently it was the “sound” that inspired Chicago but no studio version of the song was ever released so apparently what I… Read more »

Hi Joey, think your looking for the wrong band. Blood, Sweat & Tears made a Version of “Got to get you into my life” on the record “New Blood”. Maybe this is the one, brass-driven too.
Cheers Jembo78

You’re probably thinking of Earth Wind and Fire’s version. It has a horn section to it that may remind you of classic Chicago horns. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKskYvTGEHE

I genuinely do not remember this. And, I have to say.. I’m glad. The original was perfect, and this is a total miss for me. I still love ‘Hard Habit’ though…

Awful, isn’t it. Video seems to be a rip off of 1984, too. Skip said video to the end and yt suggests the 1970 live version which is totally amazing and the definitive take on the song.

This album Chicago 18 was the first after they fired Peter Cetera, and started losing their rock focus for a more AC-friendly style. After growing up with the original, IMHO this remake is unnecessary and sounds like the band was on Quaaludes compared to the classic original from 1970. Here is a better remake (with rap) and the two originals: Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 (GoArmy Remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGCs4CS6ENA from the LP Chicago (aka Chicago II): Chicago – 25 Or 6 To 4 (dedicated mono 45 hit single mix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6P2YujV9is BB #4, CB & RW #6; UK #5 Chicago… Read more »

Amazing!! I actually own this 12 inch, but have yet to rip it. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s my understanding Humberto Gatica remixed all 3 tracks on this single. Love the David Foster production too. Everything David Foster touched turned to gold! I appreciate you not only thinking outside the box, but knocking those walls down completely! Thank you again Paul!!

You take me back to my college days, Paul, with this one. Our college radio station at the time really liked this version of the Chicago classic. Not sure if it was added to the on-air playlist, but us who worked there enjoyed playing it for ourselves.

Thank you, Paul, for presenting a high-fidelity audio track from my youth!!
