His work with Cabaret Voltaire laid the groundwork for electro-pop, industrial, and even punk. He will be missed.

Have a feeling there was a second 12″ of this here in the UK? I’m sure I bought two copies of this single!
hi paul. i was very saddened to hear the news of richards passing away last week. cabaret voltaire was one of my favorite bands from the 80s. they were very unique, and had a big influence on electronic and industrial bands. they were very experimental in the beginning. by the time code came out, they were becoming slightly more accessible and mainstream, especially with the next album. i liked the singles, but the remixes had a little too much going on with the background vocals in them. still, an interesting release, and decent mixes. thank you so much for preserving… Read more »
Cabaret Voltaire, the only band for which I willing bought (i.e. without being forced to get an exculsive track or mix(es)) an album on cassette! No idea to this day why, but I played Micro-Phonies on tape to death in 1984 thru 1986. Good to see a tribute from you Paul as his death was grossly under reported here in their native country. Shameful…but hey it’s not a Rolling Stone or a member of Girls Aloud so not important right?
I did not appreciate the band during the 80s I wish I had though. I do really like them now and it is sad that Richard’s passing went pretty much under the radar.
Love this Paul!!! Cabaret Voltaire has been a great addition to my music library. First exposure to the band was the John Robie remix of their song “Yashar” and then I really got into them via their “Microphonies” LP which, in my opinion, is phenomenal!! They really were groundbreaking with so much of their music. “Here To Go” is such a great record, especially with the additional production by John Robie and the cool remix by Francois K. Thanks a heap Paul for dusting this one off for those who don’t know this great band can hear and enjoy!! A… Read more »
