C.C.C.P. – Made In Russia (Germany 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

“Made In Russia” is the second single by German synth-pop act C.C.C.P. led by Rasputin Stoy. C.C.C.P. separated themselves from ’80s Depeche Mode and Erasure wannabes by having a tougher, more energetic sound. “Made n Russia” hit the number one and number two spots in Hong Kong, Benelux, France and Spain.

I just noticed the 120 BPM sticker, reminding me that most “club/electronica” releases around that time were 112 BPM and 120 was considered pretty fast … lol

Faith Healer, your links are tied to your IP address; they won’t work for other people.

no, they just expire after three days. It’s just a temp server that deletes everything after 72 hours. If you want, I can upload it again.

1986-1987 brought about an onslaught of RUSSIAN inspired songs and clothing with Cyrillic letters, thanks to Gorbachev and Perestroika! And I loved every single one of them, especially this one and Red Flag’s RUSSIAN RADIO!!! I even had a pair of suspenders with Cyrillic letters.

GREAT STUFF!!!

I did not remember this track at all, so I read the lyrics.
Gave me a very nasty chill.
This is not amusement for me. It does not even sound like satire.
It is pure propaganda, dressed as a popsong.
Read for yourself, there is no cabaret, no joke, no gimmick,
no commentary on the subject.
They want to make you chant questionable things while dancing,
especially in part two.
Or am I overreacting? Still, haven’t played it yet, by the way.

DEFINITELY OVERREACTING … lol

Being that this was a GERMAN band in 1987 (2 years before the wall came down), I can assure you that they were not pro-USSR. However, there was a definite change in moods towards Russia thanks to Gorbachev, Pravda and Perestroika … so you can probably consider this song (and the general Cyrillic movement at that time) as a welcoming sign to the East to join the rest of the world.

Thank you. When it read your answer I started to think, okay, maybe I did overreact. But gradually towards your finale, you give the impression, the propaganda worked. A welcome-change-song for the people, to sing about stuff they could not imagine the impact and burocratic installments of, especially on dancefloors (an unusual place to communicate about social and political changes, I think, between people) but they enjoyed the singing anyway. The song is not only talking about glasnost, either. Reagan, remember him? He sold out big, remember? But hey, let’s not discuss the world, let’s dance. Mind if I put on… Read more »

I find that it’s always the best policy to embrace other cultures, even if it fails … keep trying … a long time ago, people were fighting each other from tribe to tribe, then village to village, region to region, finally country against country … now we already have major alliances … eventually, we will come together as one people! Putin, Trump, Reagan … they are all just obstacles on that path. In the end, WE THE PEOPLE decide the future of this planet. This isn’t the first time in history that things looked grim! then we will all be… Read more »

I lived at that time in the USSR, it was a great country. Gorbachev did many wrong things, ruined the economy and the country.
In our time in Russia, some people call Gorbachev a traitor, some a stupid person. I am sure that Gorbachev should not have ruled our country.

Loved the instrumental mix of this and still own this great 12’er! The ‘U.S. of E’ release and ‘Orient’ were pretty good too! I fell off the C.C.C.P bandwagon shortly after those due to the ‘campy’ speak-talk singing and overt political agenda. Thanks for the FLAC of this!

Yep they’re the same band. Also try listening to their other releases such as United States Of Europe and Conquestadores. Fantastic tunes to blast up your speakers party mode…

Is this the same group that released Orient Express? I have Orient Express and American Soviets. But I will have to give a listen to this one – Made In Russia. Thank you very much !!

Awesome selection. When I first heard American-Soviets in ’86 I ran out and bought it and played it over and over. I couldn’t get enough of it. I became fascinated with this band and its sister project Beat-A-Max. This was a great one in its own right. A nice surprise to see it posted here. Would you happen to have American-Soviets Pt. II? A cool remix that’s never been on CD. Regardless, thanks for this one Paul.

Is that the “Paul Cameron Remix” ? It was included in their United States Of Europe release I think. Have it on vinyl though…

No it’s not the Cameron Paul Mix. It is an official remix on Clockwerk Records Germany in ’87. https://www.discogs.com/CCCP-American-Soviets-Part-II/release/181364

When this popped up on my computer screen, Paul, I had chills running all over me!! I love this band A LOT!! I don’t know much of their back catalog, however, I adore a couple of their singles. AND!!! What makes this really exciting for me, is that this is a new song for my ears. I’m not familiar with this single at all. You are such a love for introducing it to me (and the rest of us who are new to this song!) I am thrilled Paul. I loved this band’s sound. Yes, very tough, and all. I… Read more »
