Burning The Ground Exclusive 1982
“One More Shot” is a 1982 single by Freestyle/electro studio project C-Bank helmed by various producers including John Robie. The song includes lead vocals by American R&B singer Jenny Burton. “One More Shot”, is notable for record producer John Robie’s use of a “non-linear” approach to its production. the song is often refered to as the first Freestyle jam.
“One More Shot”, would later resurface in a reworked form as “Shellshock”, a non-album track by New Order that John Robie produced, which appears on the Pretty in Pink soundtrack. This followed his work with Arthur Baker and Jellybean Benitez on the New Order song “Confusion” in 1983.
“One More Shot” dubeted on the US Billboard Dance Chart on January 23, 1983 peaking at #5 after spending fifteen weeks on the survey.

This is a great song remember this when I was in high school. I was looking for the other song “Won’t stop loving you”. Any chance that is here or do you have it?
I remember hearing it for the first time on a program on Radio Cidade (198x). In the program they played foreign songs and that had not yet arrived through record companies, only pirates 😀
Thank you Paul!
Next Plateau? Didn’t they release the famous dance jam Electric Slide but that is early 1990’s.
Obscure relics for the big WIN and the B-Sides are undefeated!
Great share. Also good –> C-Bank – Get Wet. Hint, hint … Know what I mean? Say no more.
Less known than One More shot but also another classic old school 80s electro Robie production with amazing TR-808 and synth programming.
All hail John Robie and his genius. This was a fantastic piece of Electro of which we loved playing it by the pool: “Take a dive with me! GET WET!!!!” I really want his body of work to be lauded and awarded!!
Jeff
I never realized that One More Shot was so much ‘connected’ to Shellshock. Both are childhood favorites, and especially Shellshock still brings me goosebumps and wonderful memories. I have double copies of both, btw.
Great release. Next Plateau was one of my favourite labels during this period too.
Thanks Paul 🙂
… many thanks for this classic!
wow Thanks for One More Shot, este tema fue en los mejores tiempo de mi vida, al igual que los ultimos post que a compartido simplemente Maravillosos
You’re welcome 🙂
I’m not sure which is more exciting, your excellent post or Jeff’s comment! Thanks Paul!
LOL You’re welcome Retro Hound 🙂
This song is new to me. It makes me think of Freez’s I.O.U. I also hear sections of the remix of Yazoo’s Don’t go. It seems that you made Jeff very happy with your post. Thanks Paul for this great found 🙂
The producer was part of Freez so there is a connection. I agree I think Jeff is very happy 🙂
I HAVE JUST CLIMAXED!!! Paul, what are you doing to me? This song is probably in my top five records of all time! You know how much John Robie means to me and I am shivering as I type this because I love it so. Mr. Robie’s production is so incredible with all that breaking glass percussion and wild studio techniques. John Robie used a glass orange juice bottle of which he shattered on the floor of the studio to sample it into his keyboard. Robie is known to be crazy and pushes his machines and singers to their maximum.… Read more »
You’re welcome, Jeff. I do not think there is any more I can that you didn’t say already the song really is a marvel of sonic sound. 🙂
