Boys Don’t Cry – I Wanna Be A Cowboy (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

Originally posted May 4th, 2011

“I Wanna Be A Cowboy” is a 1985 single by British duo Boys Don’t Cry. A novelty song with deadpan humour and kitschy references, the song has been described as the perfect musical realization of a spaghetti western movie. It hit #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #13 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi Singles Sales chart in 1986-1987, and was R&R #8. “I Wanna Be A Cowboy” was also a top 10 hit in Australia and South Africa. The video featured a cameo appearance by Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead.

Thanks so much for the re-rip of this true “desert island” 12er. A true KROQ flashback favorite that always got it going in my old radio/party DJ days.

I need to put on the leather chaps!!! I absolutely love this song and I remember how the girls at the Sorority House on my College campus, would clamor for this song!! BUT, we didn’t have the 12-inch, and Paul, your sound makes things so much more festive. You give my memories High Definition and incredible fidelity!! Ooh, I think I want to make a BTG compilation with this song, “Reach” by Martini Ranch and The Escape Club’s “Wild, Wild West.” You’re so perfect Paul. Thanks for making my musical vistas……GRAND!!! Grateful!!! Jeff P.S. Hey, I love when you re-rip… Read more »

Had a wonderful vacation, Paul, and thanks for asking. It’s great to be back, especially for all the fantastic music I missed last week. I’ll have to catch up and then comment. I think it’s great that you give us a voice to chime on in and talk about tracks, share memories and mostly, to express our thanks to you for your phenomenal choice and exquisite skills. You’re amazing. Truly and rapturously, amazing!! You’re a bit psychic too as I and others have said on occasion. Earlier today, I was checking out the lyrics for Haysi Fantayzee’s “John Wayne Is… Read more »
