Boy Meets Girl – Oh Girl (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

Side A

Re-Rip Newly Remastered!

Originally I posted this one on September 7, 2011. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon Super 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

Boy Meets Girl is an American pop music duo consisting of keyboardist and vocalist George Merrill and singer Shannon Rubicam. They are perhaps best known for their hit song “Waiting For a Star to Fall” from 1988. As songwriters, the duo composed a pair of #1 hits for Whitney Houston, “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Someone (Who Loves Me)”. They also provided backing vocals on “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” by Deniece Williams.

The duo’s first album was self-titled, and its lead-off song, “Oh Girl”, a bitter tale of a failed relationship was released as a single by A&M Records. The song reached #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on June 4, 1985.

BMG on BTG! Nice!
I love your re-rips, and I think you do too, because you sound like a really proud parent when introducing your re-rips posts. LOL!
This was my introduction to BMG in 1985, thanks to their chart entry in the American Top 40. Only a minor hit then, I never expected them to achieve the success with those Whitney #1s and their own Top 5 by the end of the decade!
Thanks Paul!

Thanks for this one. I remember growing up in the Philippines and there was a track being played on the radio called Be My Baby. I thought it was released as a single because it was so catchy. I think it’s from their debut album. I will listen to this one. Thanks for all you do Paul.

Paul, here’s to popping the cork of Champagne to you for all of your hard work. Like Stefano said above it’s so great having these re-rips of your older posts. When I first discovered BTG, a lot of the tracks I clicked on were unavailable, so these new “remasters” are such a welcome gift from you. You are so sweet and generous Paul. I love your fans too as they appreciate all the hard work you do as well. Oh, and by-the-way, do you ever sleep? You are like a machine with the biggest heart around!! I value your contribution… Read more »

Awesome. This is new to me as well.

Please tell us you’re going to do “Waiting For a Star to Fall” as well! All of the versions I’ve bought on CD or download are dynamically compressed to hell, so it seems the only way to get a version with all of the dynamics is via a quality vinyl capture. Here’s hoping!

As usual, great work, Paul. Thank you soooo much for enriching our lives with this music. For the ones I keep, I’m sure to purchase a copy from traditional channels so licenses are paid to the respective artists/labels.

I hate the modern day compression/loudness, I can’t get enough of the 12″ discs or the albums for that matter..

I’d still like to see “Waiting For A Star To Fall”.
No extended version that I know of either, but it’s still a terrific pop song
that deserves your skills Paul.
Plus the 12″ had another 3 songs if I remember correctly.
