Great song by a great group. There’s a few diff versions out there. So excited about Tom playing TT music again!

The TTs were a local band for me in my teens (my sister went to school with Tom Bailey’s sister – how’s that for a tenuous claim to fame?!) and it was a shame for me to see them get blander as they got bigger (but doesn’t everyone?). This was their last half-decent single for me – it at least had some oomph, presumably from the input of Nile Rodgers – but I think Tom’s exhaustion was beginning to show in the music. I much prefer the Quick Step singles, and earlier ones like In The Name of Love, but… Read more »

Hi Paul,

By any chance do you have this version:

Don’t Mess With Doctor Dream ((U4A) + (U3A)) = Remix)

http://www.discogs.com/Thompson-Twins-Dont-Mess-With-Doctor-Dream-U4A-U3A-Remix/release/202315

To my knowledge, this remix never been released on CD.

Thanks for posting my favorite New Wave band and for all you do.

Cheers!

Chris

Excellent post, Paul!
Thanks!
TT gave us a string of classic singles from 1982 to 1985.
I think Tom’s breakdown from exhaustion was the start of the TT train being derailed.
Still, there is no denying their rightful place in the New Wave era.

Odd that the meaning of the song has not been mentioned here.

Their last top 20 hit in the UK and it was all steadily down hill after this, clearly they had run their course. Good to see this on 12″ Paul, any of their earlier material you have?

As always, a great upload..

Wow. Please post some more then when you get time. I’m still after one of your awesome rips for the ‘Never-commited-to-CD’ Lies (7″ version) as i mentioned about a year ago! Oh and EX15… Couldn’t disagree more. Get that love, Long goodbye, Sugar daddy, In the name of love ’88, Come inside, Play with me (Jane) and far more besides were also superb singles. They may not have had much success after 1986 but even Doctor Dream deserved so much more failing to dent the U.K. top 10. Same for King for a day. Babble were awesome too and his… Read more »

Hey NKelly, I’m pretty sure Lies single version is on this Greatest Hits compilation:

You can hear a short preview there. Let me know if that’s different to the one you’re thinking of. 🙂

The help i can give (as i’m in my lunch-hour currently) is as follows. It was Howard Jones who persuaded Tom to tour. He is doing ‘Rewind Festival’ (U.K.) and i think ‘Regeneration’ which is a kind of US equivelent i believe! Both 80’s festivals. I went to Rewind one day in 2012 and 2013 but will do both days this year! Tom also has a new Facebook page i believe i hope those interested can find. Any more help, feel free to come back to me. Glad some of you are excited about this news. I certainly am. Love… Read more »

Honestly, I did not believe you. Your cryptic post about a new page didn’t do much for my belief because you did not provide a link.

However, I truly appreciate you letting us know. It is completely legit.
