Bow Wow Wow – Go Wild In The Country (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982

“Go Wild in the Country” is a song by English new wave band Bow Wow Wow. It was released as a single from their album See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah. City All Over! Go Ape Crazy.

“Go Wild in the Country” was written by Dave Barbarossa, Leigh Gorman, Malcolm McLaren and Matthew Ashman.

It was first released in 1982 and entered the UK Singles Chart in January, reaching No. 7 and staying for 13 weeks on the chart. It was the first single by the band to not be produced by Malcolm McLaren.

The single sleeve, from the same photoshoot as the See Jungle! See Jungle! album cover reenacts Édouard Manet’s Le déjeuner sur l’herbe.

Great choice Paul, many thanks! For me it’s as much about the band as Ms. Lwin. Burundi drums, funky bass and Matthew Ashman’s sterling guitar work. Aaah!

Always a favorite of Karen and mine. So happy to have a rip from the original 12-inch done your way.

I remember seeing the Top Of The Pops performance of this track. Great production which was quite different from what was around at that time.

Thanks for this Paul 🙂

Great choice Paul. Brilliant song, and I’ve always loved that sleeve. The photographer did an amazing job. I’ve been meaning to go find the location for years (it’s somwhere near Box Hill, Surrey I believe) but never got round to it. Maybe this is the push I need!

Right – I’m doing it this weekend! It’s gonna be sunny, and with Google 3D maps and Streetview (which I didn’t have last time I researched this) I think I’ve found the likely area it was at, or at least the starting point for my adventure:

Will let you know how I get on. 🙂

Thanks Paul. The 3 cd boxset Your Box Set Pet comes out in a couple of weeks. I’ve ordered it. I hope it’s good.
