Boston is an American rock band from Boston, Massachusetts that achieved its most notable successes during the 1970s and 1980s. Centered on guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter, and producer Tom Scholz, the band is a staple of classic rock radio playlists. One of Boston’s best-known works include the “Amanda” from 1986 which was the bands only Billboard #1. “We’re Ready” was the follow up single to “Amanda” and the second single from the bands third album “Third Stage”. On December 27, 1986 “We’re Ready” debuted on the Billboard top 40 peaking at #9 after spending 10 weeks on the chart.
On March 9, 2007, lead singer Brad Delp committed suicide at his home in Atkinson, New Hampshire. Delp was 55 years old.

Never saw this in the record stores that sold vinyl at the time! And a lot of them did sell imports! There have always been slight differences in the album and single versions of any given Boston single, wether due to length or just to make it different [I have a version of “Peace Of Mind” that was taken off the original 45 – different lead vocal through out the song, and the track overall seemed to be recut.].
Boston’s ‘We’re Ready’? You sir, have excellent taste. For my money, this was the last great Boston rock song. The success of this track’s parent album was really amazing; 1986 was the height of the dance pop / electro / synth scene, with rap music and glam rock also on the rise. Whereas Boston was an old-school melodic rock band – and they hadn’t released an album since their 2nd in 1978. During that gap the music industry changed entirely, probably more than it has from 1986 to now. For those that like We’re Ready, I recommend a few cuts… Read more »
Thank you DLG! Boston has always been a favorite of mine as far as he rock genre is concerned. I believe that the versions on this 12″ also differ somewhat than the LP versions.
Paul, I have to say that I appreciate ALL of your efforts to preserve and make available music that is slipping out of reach for many people. One day there may be “The Great Jukebox In The Sky” that contains all of recorded music available at the touch of a button over the internet, but its founders would do well to model themselves after your work. As a music fan and archivist, I will say again, “THANK YOU” for all that you do!
CakeSaint thank you for the comment it means a great deal and I appreciate it.
WOW! This is very unexpected but very very nice to see. These guys sure put out some of the most exciting and fresh sounding music for that time…hell..still to this day it still gets me! BIG thanks for this and BTW this transfer sound exceptional!!!
You’re welcome Kevin. I try really hard to provide the best sound that I can. There may be a stray click here and there but after all it is vinyl and impossible to get every little click but I do my best 🙂 I appreciate your comment.
I like such unexpected posts, Paul!
Thanks for this AOR classic!
1986 was quite the comeback year for Boston who scored a #1 single and #1 album.
But much as I like Amanda, it is one of three songs that kept Madonna’s True Blue stuck at #3. (Human League’s Human and Bon Jovi’s You Give Love A bad Name are the other two.)
Thank you Ric! I enjoy doing posts that are sometimes unexpected I think it keeps things interesting.
Thank you dear Paul! 🙂
You’re welcome Spring. This may not be the most popular post I have ever made but I like it. I hope others will too.
