BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“Beat Dis” is a 1988 track by British act Bomb the Bass, a studio production formed by producer Tim Simenon, from the act’s album Into the Dragon. It, like other hits of the era such as “Pump Up the Volume” by MARRS and “Theme from S’Express” by S’Express, largely consisted of samples.
The single was very successful in the United Kingdom, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for one week and was Bomb the Bass’ only chart hit in the U.S.
The record sleeve features a smiley lifted from Watchmen. This usage was the origin of the use of the smiley as a symbol for acid house.

This is one of the tracks that smacks me with my beginnings of clubbing, wanting to be a DJ, . . M/A/R/R/S, S*express, and Maurice “This is Acid”
Still my absolutely most favorite ACID HOUSE track of all time. It never seems to leave my car stereo … lol I just listened to the 24bit FLAC version of the main mix and it seems to “skip” around the 1 minute mark and a few other spots … it doesn’t seem to have any issues on the MP3 version … has anyone else noticed that or was it just on mind (maybe I just need to download it again)? Also, do you have a good copy of RIFIFI – Dr. Acid & Mr. House since we are in an… Read more »
Nope no other complaints. I t may be on your end 24bit files use more latenct than mp3 or 16 bit. It might be the software you are palaying it on. 🙂
yeah, I was playing it on Windows Media Player … works fine on other software … lol
thank you again!
oh and do you have RIFIFI – Dr. Acid & Mr. House
One of my favorites of that whole sample pastiche fad.
Many years later, I ended up with a Yamaha drum brain for one of my live drumming setups, which happened to have the distinctive HUGE snare drum sound Simenon used in this track. I had a blast playing along to my 12″.
Enjoy!Will McCammon 🙂
One of my all-time favourite EDM tracks, and the first acid music song I was introduced to. Tim’s debut album was another personal fav. Love it. Love you.
Thank you Stephen 🙂
“Everybody in the street, get down to the funky beat. Beat Dis!” Man, Paul, what a rush it is to experience so many of these fantastic singles all over again. Since I no longer have a turntable, so much of my music collection remains silent. You are my Champion, because you herald and bring back so much of it. I try very hard to find all my favorites on CD compilations and reissues, but, unfortunately, so many aren’t available. And if they are, the labels don’t seem to really care about sound quality. You, as we all know so well… Read more »
