Blondie – Atomic (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1980

“Atomic” is a song by American rock band Blondie from their fourth studio album, Eat to the Beat (1979). Written by Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri and produced by Mike Chapman, the song was released as the album’s third single.

The 1980 single version of “Atomic” was a remix. The original 4:35 version as featured on the albums Eat to the Beat and 1981’s The Best of Blondie opens with an intro inspired by the nursery rhyme “Three Blind Mice” and includes an instrumental break with a bass guitar solo. The 7″ version mixed by Mike Chapman omits the “Three Blind Mice” intro and replaces the instrumental break with a repeat of the verse.

Wait, whaa – a b-side of Robert Fripp doing “Heroes” live? And the A-side itself, and bonus cut? Amazing – thanks a lot for this, DJPaul!

Loved Blondie’s earlier albums from Blondie (1976) to The Curse of Blondie (2003), all featuring original keyboardist Jimmy Destri.
I was looking forward to the 2019 remasters, so far nothing, hopefully next year, might be a Duran Duran 40th boxset as well.

Another great post Paul, All The Best.

Paul, I love Blondie and Deborah Harry too, and they’re still going on even now. Blondie of course ruled the world with Heart of Glass, but branched out into several other genres. The early rock, and punk sound was definitely what got them started, but the dance elements is what set them apart. I like atomic for what it is. But in the late 90’s, is when they really started cranking up the remixes, into their best shape. They were much more house, electronica oriented by then. The early versions have their own appeal though. With true disco classics for… Read more »

There is an extended version. A 7min 40sec “new disco mix”. It was released in 1994 with the many Diddy remix singles on vinyl and CD.

Fabulous Friday!. Thanks Paul. I wish there a proper ext. mix of this. A New Disco Mix was created in 1994 of the album version. But they should’ve released a proper 12″ version with the 7′ intro.
