Billy Crystal – You Look Marvelous (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“You Look Marvelous” is a 1985 novelty/dance track recorded by American comedian Billy Crystal. The song peaked at #58 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and #17 in Canada.

“You Look Marvelous” would also have an accompanying music video that had heavy rotation on MTV. Both the song and video features Crystal in character as his SNL persona of talk show host Fernando Lamas. The video features Lamas cruising around in what was at the time the world’s longest stretch limousine, built by custom coach designer and builder Vini Bergeman, surrounded by models in bikinis.

The accompanying album titled “Marvelous” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Recording at the 1986 Grammy Awards.

He could almost look like that now. Except his hair is more receded but with more colour. I don’t recall hearing this song before.

The truth is that this song was not in my library, the contribution to the musical universe with this version is appreciated.

What a whimsical addition! I pulled this out just a few days before and laughed out loud at what a silly song this was. Enjoyed hearing this is much greater quality than ever before thanks to you, Paul. Cheers!

What a nice surprise, thanks Paul!! I have the 45 in my collection. I used to watch the video in heavy rotation on MTV. You know, back when it was actually Music Television… This single more than deserves to be dusted off with your pristine attention to detail.

I am floored when I saw this Paul. I was always hoping that you could one day post this record. Yeah, I know it’s a novelty, but Arthur Baker’s production and the Latin Rascals’ edits make this song outstanding. To me, it’s the dub version that deserves attention the most.. The drum machine is gargantuan and fierce. In college when I worked at the radio station during football games, I used the dub to fade in and out of the sportscaster’s commentary. Boy, I was around when this was released, but I really don’t remember it. I can’t wait to listen to it to see if my brain has it tuck away deep in the ripples of time!
