Belinda Carlisle – Summer Rain (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1990

“Summer Rain” is a song written by Robbie Seidman and Maria Vidal, produced by Rick Nowels for Belinda Carlisle’s third album Runaway Horses (1989).

“Summer Rain” achieved moderate commercial success in North America, where it was released as the second single from Runaway Horses (1989). In January 1990, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100, the main US chart, at number 86. Within seven weeks of its release, it peaked at number 30 and stayed at that position for two weeks. The single spent 13 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, six of which were in the top 50. The single was Carlisle’s second to the last song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It also peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, where it spent eight weeks on the chart.

In Australia, the song had the most commercial success, where it was released as the album’s third single on March 19, 1990. In early April 1990, it debuted at number 42. Within two months of its release, it reached the top 10, where it stayed for five weeks. The song reached a peak at number six on May 20 and remained there for two more weeks, spending a total of 16 weeks in the top 50. It became the 40th highest-selling single in Australia in 1990.

The song was released in the United Kingdom in December 1990 as the sixth and final release from Runaway Horses, peaking at number 23 at the end of January 1991 and spending 10 weeks in the chart.

This may be a case of semantics but I find calling this an “Extended Version” to be an insult to the original song. Where is the guitar? Where are the strings? Where is the signature stereo echo that makes the song? None of it there. I’m sorry to say but I think this is a mediocre remix at best. I just think building on the orignal would have been so much better than a common house remix even if that was considered old hat. Also, there is a spelling mistake in your folder name, but that’s not the worst spelling… Read more »

I had to deactivate Windows Defender once again to be able to extract the 16 bit flac version of the song. Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware found nothing, though.

But as always, Paul: Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated. 🙂

Hi Paul 🙂

I tried to download and extract it once again today and this time Windows Defender accepted it without any kind of hassle. Weird.

Kind regards, atahualpaFX

Thanks for this rip, Paul! The picture of her on the back cover on the bed looks exactly like Alicia Silverstone!

On a side note, someone posted this morning on your Jets post yesterday that they think you posted an MP3 instead of the FLAC quality.

Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

Thanks for this and Elton John’s great rips Paul! This maxi single was one of my favorites, Justin Strauss did a great job there, just like his other great job of Camouflage – The Great Commandment (Justin Strauss Remix). Keep it up!

Thanks for posting this twelve by Ms. Carlisle, Paul. So excited to see Chep Nunez on here providing the edits. Still so sad about his passing many years ago as he was a pioneer of the percussive cut and splice. I’m so happy to get a further education about Belinda Carlisle’s discography courtesy of you. I didn’t really follow her career that much, so it’s time to play catch-up with her record releases. Thank you. Paul, have a happy Thanksgiving Holiday! And all of you BTG members as well. I know the entire world doesn’t celebrate this holiday, it’s still… Read more »
