Originally posted May 10, 2011

“One” is the second international single (and lead single in the U.S.) from the Bee Gees’ album, One. This was the song that returned the Bee Gees to American radio and would turn out to be their biggest US hit in the 1980s, and their last hit single to reach the US top ten. It was their first Top 10 hit since “Love You Inside Out” was #1 in June 1979. It peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in September 1989, and it stayed in the Top 40 for ten weeks. It also topped the American adult contemporary chart that same month, remaining at number one for two weeks.

The track reached No. 71 in the UK Singles Chart.

Thank you Paul.I remember this Promo back in the years and I didn’t like it.
But today (34 years later), I put the 12″ Club Mix on my playlist…

Thank you for this one – I still have your original rips on my main music drive!

As an FYI, back in 2013 all these vinyl-only mixes were included as bonus tracks on their Warner Bros. albums box set:

The mastering is fine on that box, though a little loud. Your original rips are my preferred choice – but possibly the 2023 version will sound even better! 🙂

Wow what a nice surprise!! I love this record. Their big comeback in the US after the disco backlash… I remember this was all over radio in late Summer/Fall ’89. Can’t wait to listen to your meticulous transfer, and the Dub, which I believe is exclusive to this release. Thank you Paul!!

Thanks for the great rip, Paul! I have to echo both you and Jeff’s comments…I didn’t recall this song by title until I listened to the chorus of the normal album mix…and also that my favorite mix is track 4. I think they kinda killed the first 3 mixes with that overly loud off-beat hand clap sound effect (reminiscent of Word Up by Cameo). Thanks again for the post and have a great day!

Hey Paul, I am thrilled to be downloading this song from your site!! I am also embarrassed and a little ashamed to admit that I don’t know this record. I have absolutely no idea of why and how I missed it in the first place!! Gosh, it was number seven on the pop charts even!! I always thought and prided myself on knowing all the smash singles on the radio but this escapes me. I was a Bee Gees fan too. I guess I was listening elsewhere, however, I’m just stumped. I am very happy now to play catch up… Read more »

I agree, the One album is terrific, one of their best. Some great tunes and a touching tribute to Andy. Love Robin’s vocals on Tokyo Nights.
