BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984
“Robert De Niro’s Waiting…” is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama. It was the second single released from their self-titled second album in 1984.
The single is one of the group’s strongest performing releases, peaking at number three in the UK singles chart (the single to date stands in a three-way tie as Bananarama’s highest-charting UK hit). It made a brief appearance on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ninety-five.
An extended version of the song was available on the 12″ single. The B-side of both 7″ and 12″ singles was a song called “Push!”. Also included on the 12″ single, was an unlisted track; a different version “Link” from Bananarama.

Erik I will repost whenever i get some free time.
A pity Robert De Niro never appeared in the song. Perhaps his singing voice isn’t too good. 😛
Lovin’ all the Bananarama (and the Prince, Olivia and Grace Jones, among others…). Excellent work. By the way, I’m glad you haven’t forgotten us MP3 lovers! We’re still out there…
You’re welcome Hellomudda.
I dont remember this getting any airply here in the US (maybe KROQ) but this somehow is my Mothers favorite Banana tune along with Cruel Summer.
I hate to be repetitive… Thanks Paul!!!!
PS Hey Paul if you haven’t already, you should put an Amazon wish list on here (I put mine on my profile page) Im sure many people would like to reward your hard work with a gift.
If I don’t have another chance Happy Holidays Everyone!!
Happy Holidays my friend!
Woo! The Rama continues!?!? Awesome! I was pleasantly surprised back in ’84 that this single did as well as it did. Competition was stiff during its two week stint at #3. There’s – It’s Raining Men by Weather Girls, It’s A Miracle – Culture Club, A Love Worth Waiting For – Shakin Stevens, You Take Me Up – The Thompson Twins and People by People by Depeche Mode. Unfortunately, none of these fine singles managed to threaten the dirge that is Lionel Richie’s Hello. Ughs! BTW, has anyone ever heard the Al Pacino’s Waiting Demo? Ans also, it would’ve been… Read more »
Ric I have never heard “Al Pacino’s Waiting” that sounds interesting and he is one of my favorite actors. I agree the girls should have gotten De Niro to at least do a cameo, but your right he was probably too expensive.
If I remember correctly, they felt that Al Pacino’s waiting sounded a bit clumsier to sing and opted for Robert De Niro’s Waiting instead.
Wouldn’t it be nice if they had that on the B-side!
That would have been really cool.
Thank you Paul, Bananarama are fantastic!
You’re welcome Tyson.
Thanks, Paul!
As K.C. would say, “Keep it comin’, keep it comin’, love. Don’t stop it now, don’t stop it no, don’t stop it now, don’t stop…”
=)
Thank you very much Paul, for all posts by bananarama
My pleasure Guss.
Thanks Paul, I was hoping for this one.
🙂 You’re welcome Jemboy!
Thanks Paul! Great song
You’re welcome Mark 🙂
Thanks Paul! This is a nice surprise; I somehow thought Cruel Summer was going to be your last Bananarama post for now.
BTW, the untitled track is Link (Gonna Make You Feel Alright). This is the 12″ Version; the album version is slightly different and clocks in at 1:32.
Oops — didn’t closely read the description above. You acknowledged that fact.
Thank you so much Paul, this track is an early christmas present for me.
You’re welcome Orlando. Merry Christmas!
Paul… What can I say ? MERCI !
