BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Tarzan Boy”, was released in April 1985, and became a huge European success, peaking at No. 6 on the Italian single chart and entering the top 5 in numerous European countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and Norway. The song eventually made it to the United Kingdom charts, where it reached no.3 in August 1985.
“Tarzan Boy” was released in Canada in October 1985 and peaked on the Canadian charts at No. 5 by the end of the year. However, it took a while for the single to enter the Hot 100 single chart in the United States (where it was released on EMI). When it did, it remained on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six months, peaking at No. 13 in March 1986. Baltimora performed on the American TV show Solid Gold, which helped further their success in America.
Due to the single’s popularity in Europe an alternate 12″ and 7″ remix was released by EMI Records called “Summer Version” this remix was only released in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Memories of a family holiday in France that summer. This and Comanchero by Moon Ray was everywhere on the continent that summer. I remember thinking they were both so ‘Europop’ no one will have heard them back in the UK. So I bought Comanchero whilst over there but for some reason not Tarzan Boy… …no matter…I was wrong! Tarzan Boy was all over our radio too and climbing the UK chart. No one knew Comanchero though so if I was only going to buy one I bought the right one. Eventually bought Tarzan Boy on 7″ in the UK and… Read more »
What a great memory for this record Ian. Thank you for sharing it with us. Guess I am one of those not familiar with Comanchero so I will check it out 🙂

“Everything was better in the past” 🙂 That´s nonsense, of course. Except for Eighties music 🙂 You just can´t beat it. Everything was allowed, everybody experimented with new technologies. Those were AWESOME times. When I look at the Top 40 today, be it the American, the British or the German one, I hardly know a handful of songs. Always the same artists, the same kind of music, always *star* featuring *star* to make sure fans buy it. BORING. It´s not all bad, of course, but it´s so BOOOOORIIIIINNNNNGGGGG! Or, to quote the fabulous Electric Light Orchestra, “Remember the good old… Read more »
Great lyrics from ELO. I am so out of the loop as far as today’s music I am not familiar with any of it, of course, I know some of the names but I could not quote a lyric. The last new artist I bought was Harry Styles debut solo album which was pretty creative and great.
You aren’t missing much, Paul. Between the “…always *star* featuring *star*” and the required auto-tuning, the 80’s are all we have to hang on to…. Unless you are like me and lived thru the early, mid, & late 70’s music. Disco was the ancestor of 80’s dance music with all the great remixes. So, the transition was seamless. My neighbor has speakers outside in his backyard with the radio station tuned to the current music. Wow, that auto-tuning thing travels. Sometimes he forgets to turn off his radio and it screams all night long!!! The only newbie I buy is… Read more »
Hahaha… Remember this mix well !!
More goofy dancing around the room from me 🙂
Seriously miss the 80s.
My generation and the last decade of great pop music (imo).
So many great records, constant innovations and fun.
All kinds of people coming together and being genuinely made happy by music.
So lucky to have been there 🙂
Thanks for all the memories Paul oxo
Those were certainly the days Jay. We are all so pulled in so many directions nowadays. I really miss the simplicity and innovation that were the 80s. 🙂
I remember so much great music coming out constantly. I never had the money to buy all the 12″s, 7″s and albums I wanted. People often scoff now at things like Italo disco, Eurodance and Hair metal; but back then, music brought so much joy and pleasure to people’s lives. I’m not going to criticise something because it’s not to my taste; but I’d sooner listen to some Sylvester, or Baltimora, or Warrant’s ‘Cherry Pie” for the zillionth time.. than suffer through some miserable dirge or meaningless drivel that came to replace 80’s music. Of course there was bad music… Read more »
