Alphaville – Universal Daddy (Aquarian Dance Mix) (Germany 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

“Universal Daddy” is the sixth single by Alphaville, and their second from their album Afternoons in Utopia. It was released only in Europe.

This song was described as one of the album’s best songs and reminiscent of the kind of music that their contemporaries the Pet Shop Boys might produce.Despite the praise, the song is one of singer Marian Gold’s least favorite Alphaville songs ever, saying simply that “the lyrics are the most embarrassing ones I’ve ever written”.

Weird lyrics indeed. Is he talking about predatoey sex between generations or about politics? Why did he make the lines so blurred…
Was it an concept gone wrong because of two captains or was it because he mixed his emotions with an industry agenda?
Will we ever know? Do you?

Thanks again Paul! I thought you might go back to an Afternoons In Utopia single after Dance With Me. After Universal Daddy and Dance With Me, there’s three more 12″s from that album too (Red Rose, Jerusalem, and Sensations). If you have those, I’m sure we’d all love to hear your gorgeous rips of them as well. 🙂

Seconded Roman! That would be great to see here. Some nice mixes and edits of Romeos on that if Paul ever gets a chance to rip it!

I’ll also add that I’d love to see the US Mysteries of Love 12″ on here too. Some nice mixes on that one as well.

I am so happy to get this song from you Paul. I do like Alphaville, but mainly know them from their first LP. It’s so great to expand my listening experience to other songs in their catalog all because of you. I love that you’re posting synth-pop this week. It seems that people feel that Burning The Ground is more New Wave and Synth oriented, but I am so happy that you are so much more than that. I loved last week’s Freestyle Flashback and the R&B/Funky stuff before that. Hey, my first love is New Wave, but I appreciate… Read more »
