Alan Rankine – The Sandman (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

-DjPaulT Recommended 12″

“The Sandman” is the debut solo single by Scottish musician and record producer Alan Rankine best known as keyboardist/guitarist for the new wave band Associates, which he co-founded with Billy Mackenzie in the late 1970s.

“The Sandman” was taken from Rankine’s second studio album “She Loves Me Not”. A very underrated track “The Sandman” failed to chart and ends up as one of my recommended 12″ singles.

Great extended mix and I love the weird B side. I hope to find some of his other solo stuff. Thanks

A very nice track. I love the chorus & how it slowly draws you in.
Thanks for another old but new to me track.

I thought the same thing actually. It’s amazing how certain songs just gel together. Would be a nice two-tracker or, in today’s vernacular, a mash-up. I really liked this song. Would like to hear parts 1 and 2.

“Can you believe everything you see (part 3)”

I can’t believe I’m the only one that has mentioned it but that sounds uncannily like Depeche Mode’s “Strangelove”

Crazy. Really good rip though. Yet another one I have never heard of.

Nice one Paul.

Thank SO much for this one … Alan Rankine did such good solo work, and it’s great to see you feature some of it.

What? I am the first to comment on this incredible cover?
Sultry voice by the way – perfect match. And his own music. I got so distracted by the music of the associates, I must have overlooked them being so handsome. Or maybe puberty hadn’t fully kicked in?

(If I could turn back time, I hear Cher sing in the back of my mind, I like his singing better, how does one tune out Cher?)

The Sandman was also on his first album, The World Begins To Look Her Age. Great track – thank you

These DjPaulT Recommended 12″ singles are such a highlight in my book. Paul, you have impeccable tastes, of course, but these songs are really magic. I get extra excited whenever you post something that’s near and dear to your heart and sensibilities because these records are very special. I can’t wait to check this one out later on today!!

Paul!! I feel as if I’m in a delirium after listening to this phenomenal track!! I love when you have the passion over certain records and this one certainly leaves a deep impression on my psyche!! Very addictive and I just don’t know why this didn’t chart. Amazing stuff. The remix is WONDERFUL!! The nursery rhyme so adds to the overall affect of this piece. Whoa, I’m in a twilight, like a deep, deep sleep. Oh, the B-side is awesome too!! Thank you Paul for sharing your favorites with us as they become our favorites too!!
