BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982
“The Look of Love” is a song recorded by ABC in 1981, included on their debut album, The Lexicon of Love.
Released as a single and as a 12″ remix, it went to number one on the Billboard Dance/Disco chart as well as the Canadian pop singles chart. It was their biggest hit in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 4, and was a Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., peaking at number 18.
The single consists of four parts, referred to as “Parts One, Two, Three and Four”. A different remix version by producer Trevor Horn appeared on the 1982 U.S. 12″.
The ’82 U.S. Extended Remix was not widely available after its initial release, but the track remained much in demand by club DJs and fans alike, and copies of the original 12″ version fetched high prices. When Neutron (the band’s UK label) discovered this, they issued a limited edition re-pressing of the Horn remix in 1985 (though they did not officially re-release the song).

Any chance of getting that Trevor Horn remix on the Neutron label? Its different from this dub.
i love abc, and have almost everything they did.
but this dub is a subpar version. if there were an actual remix
with more vocals i would have liked it better.
check out this DMC remix, it’s very well done:

Hi Paul
This makes me feel very nostalgic as ABC were a local band for me growing up and my school friends and I all sought this out. I still have my copy of the UK issue, which had the same mix on both sides (which came out in 1982, not 1985 – or isn’t that what you meant?). David Palmer, the drummer, had been a few years above me in junior school and I still remember him standing at the front of the school assembly playing his snare drum. I guess he was always destined to be a drummer!
Thank you
This is a really fun mix. I remember the excitement I felt when I found this one on 12″ and still feel excitement at seeing it being posted here. Again, another amazing selection this week. Closest thing to listening to a favorite radio station hoping to hear the DJ play another great song. Thank you.
So EXCITED!!! Been searching for a quality version of this forever. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I adore this group and this is probably my favourite single from the album. So cool to hear your superb sounding rip.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome Junior 🙂
Great post, Paul! FYI, this mix is also known as “Part 5”, and it appeared on the “Absolutely” and “Look of love – The Very Best of ABC” compilations, albeit edited.
Thank you josmon for the info 🙂
The subject that indicates has a duration of 5:45 (The Look Of Love [Remix]) and it is not the same as the one that DjPaulT has kindly given us (7:37 min.). to which I really appreciate this contribution.
I had also been looking for this album for many years, so good memories and moments made me go in the 80s, since a friend left me the album and I could record it.
Greetings.
wooow THANKS Paul, I love “The Look Of Love (USA Remix – Dub Version)” Amazing, please post the song ‘Poison Arrow? Pleaseeeeeee
You’re welcome Rafael I will see what I can do for you 🙂
Thank, You’re so nice!!!!!
Wow! Never knew about this. Many thanks, Paul and have an awesome weekend. See you Monday!
Have a great weekend Neil 🙂
Thanks Paul once again for these new wave classics.
You’re welcome Omar have a nice weekend 🙂
YOU ARE A GOD!!! Whoa, DjPaulT, I am utterly flabbergasted by this post. You know, I have been searching and searching for this version on compilations for years and have really given up hope. This mix really started me on my love and obsession with dub versions for all their tricked-out glory!! Soon after this, it was Soft Cell’s “Tainted Dub” all the Martin Rushent craziness of his productions and of course, the Arthur Baker/John Robie and Latin Rascal mayhem that came a couple of years later. I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH for all that you do. I can’t… Read more »
You’re welcome Jeff. This really is such a cool mix that I don’t think many are aware of I think it’s the best one actually. Hope others will chime in and share the excitement. Have a great weekend. 🙂
This mix do exists on many compilations. Somehow it called “1990 USA remix”…
Most of the time you can find the 5:40 edit of it but the full 7:37 mix also available including on the ABC own remix compilation CD.
You can find it also here:

Yeah I have that “Remix Collection” CD and it sounds pretty bad.
Yes. Thanks for your rip. It sounds very good as always.
