ABBA – Lay All Your Love On Me (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1981

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be romantic to have a week of LOVE featuring Disco tracks with LOVE in the title. Oh, baby! It’s going to be far out!

“Lay All Your Love on Me” is a song recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA in 1980 for their seventh studio album, Super Trouper. The original was released only as a 12-inch single in 1981 in limited territories, rather than as a standard 7-inch record. At the time, it was the highest selling 12-inch record in UK chart history, where it peaked at No. 7.

Slant Magazine placed it at No. 60 on their list of the greatest dance songs of all time.

“Lay All Your Love On Me” peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Dance chart on May 2, 1981, after spending 28 weeks on the survey.

Notice the 12″ single (LP version)is not the remix that was played in clubs. Disconet remix service did a special version for DJ subscribers only. It had special edits and was extended. Raul Rodriguez (I believe) did the remix. It was a major bootleg that year.

You might say they made cheesy music and had a dreadfull taste in clothing, even so, they produced many timeless pop songs! An unofficial mix is listed on Discogs, Lay All Your Love On Me (Martin Brodin Disconet Cut & Paste Edit), as the name suggests it’s just an extended version made with cut and paste. Much more interesting are the cover versions of Information Society and Erasure. The Information Society version much more groovy 80s style with mixes by Justin Strauss and Phil Harding. The Erasure cover is of course on the ABBA-esque EP, a much more synth-pop Erasure… Read more »

Wise choice, just when their new single is just around the corner!

Although I like this song very much, when Information Society covered this song, I thought their version was superior to the original. Still, with all this ABBA nostalgia, it’s so great to hear this version. Thank you Paul!

Hope your birthday was very special. I so enjoyed reading all of your birthday messages. We certainly love you Paul very much!

Thanks, Paul! I really liked Abba back in the 70s but never got into this song. I may have boldly stepped into the 80s and shunned the disco era by 1981. 🙂

You’re going to have to make hard decisions on choosing disco songs with “love” in the title this week. 🙂

Glad to see another week of LOVE. That´s always fun. When I started to get interested in music I was listening to my farther´s favorite band ABBA. They were very big in the early 80s and I loved them. This is one of my favorite´s by them. Thank you very much Paul.
