BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
The Sun Always Shines on T.V.” is a song by Norwegian pop band A-ha. It was released as the third single from the band’s debut album, Hunting High and Low. In many countries the single was not as successful as the band’s previous, “Take on Me”, which hit #1 in the U.S. and several countries around the world. In the UK and Ireland, however, “The Sun Always Shines on T.V.” actually improved upon the #2 charting of their debut, remaining at the top spot on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in January 1986, having been released there on 16 December 1985.
This is the first edition of the UK 12″ single release.
The shorter extended version which is the rarer one, features a slow piano intro, before the steady drum beat commences.
Comes with a limited edition poster featuring a multicolour group-shot (Morten, Magne and Pål from left to right pictured in full length) by Robert Erdmann.
The 24″x36″ poster promotes the “hunting high and low”-album in white letters and larger a-ha logo in red.
The ‘Extended Version’ featured is NOT the same ‘Extended Version’ that was featured on subsequent pressings – these later pressings all featured the ‘US Dance Mix’ which was remixed by Steve Thompson.

Thanks very much Paul!
Thanks Paul 🙂
one of my favs this one
Thanks Nick!
I’m going to have to buy that, and I noticed there’s also a Scoundrel Days (Remastered Deluxe Edition) with a demo of “maybe, maybe” (a song that always makes me happy), going to grab that too. Before it’s all only on ebay for big bucks.
I appreciate the tips.
I really like the B-side (which I’ve never heard before, is it on one of their CDs? or on a reissue/greatest hits? Anyone know?)
Nice to hear a “new” A-ha song. Thanks Paul.
Hi OldDJ, Driftwood is a great b-side. It is available on the remastered Hunting High & Low 2010 deluxe edition from Rhino. Track 12 on disc 2. It is also on the Japanese CD ’45rpm Club’. Hope this helps.
Thnx a million for all your work.
Highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your flu and having to cancel your plans. When a-ha recorded this track, Morten wasn’t feeling well with flu symptoms. This version is far superior to the later mix. They made many really great albums throughout the years as you probably already know. I had tickets to the final concert in Oslo but couldn’t go as my daughter was born around that date. Saw some really great concerts in the final year though including the first two albums played in full with orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, London and a small show that I won… Read more »
Dj Paul and Ric I don´t think now this version is very rare ‘cos it is included in the recently A-HA – Hunting High And Low Deluxe 2 cds this version is named as “extended verison” in this release and rematered, by the way, so don´t think it is very rare, but always the sound of vinyl and cd are closely diferent, if you get this master release of 2 cds you will realize that is unique, well thanks gon on, chau
This version is indeed the rarer remix. Many didn’t even know of its existence. Ironic as this is probably the “original” 12″ version.
As always, it is finally awesome to have it in excellent quality. Thank you, Paul!
Hunting High And Low is a classic debut with so many great singles! Shame the US only embraced them for the first two singles.
And finally, Morten has got such a bod!
thanks for this version by the way don’t you have a-ha you are the one extended, thanks again chau
I just love stumbling upon rare remixes of the music I like…this for example, I never thought it had another extended mix version…oh the thrill of listening to an entirely different mix…the 8 minutes long has become a typical version for me…
thank you, DJ Paul! you never really stop impressing me with your collection man ;)….
Touch meeeeee! I always thought the piano intro sounded very much like the piano intro to the Art of Noise’s ‘Love’ (Track 1 on Daft). Love both songs. Thanks Paul.
Saw these guys in 2009, just before they split up again. Was an awesome show, none of them were taking it seriously, and even messed up a couple of songs and just laughed. Was sweet.
I only discovered recently that Take On Me, the version we know, is a re-record. Here’s the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keOvm0wl1qI
Take On Me was released 3 times before it became a hit. The first release holds the original version. The second and third release both have the familiar version we know.
The top notch animation video probably had a lot to do with its second wind.
Take On Me did indeed need a few stabs to become a hit. There was a UK 12″ with a poster and stickers. The Rare Record Price Guide values a Mint condition copy of this at £100.
A great record … you’re great Paul.
Many Thanks

Weren’t the Steve Thompson mixes used for the US single ?
Yes and they are much easier to find 🙂
I can understand the confusion given that photo – but it’s Magne, Morten and Pål from left to right….
Thanks for this – I’ve adored a-ha since their debut in the ’80s, having to obtain their later albums from amazon.uk because they weren’t distributed in the USA at the time, etc.
It is confusing FurBear. You’re welcome and enjoy 🙂
This is really cool. Thanks so much.
You’re welcome buddy 🙂
1 million thanks
welcome Daniel 🙂

Love U too Giorgio. The sun was shining brightly until I woke up this morning feeling not myself. I had a slight cough and chills. As I worked on this post the chills became worse and I developed a fever. I barely got through making this post. I will post an update tomorrow on what is going on I suspect it’s the flu 🙁

Thanks , i have the extended version in the so8s collection , but is different!
yep I mentioned above that this mix is not the same as the US mix. before it gets brought up this versin did appear on the very sterile sounding 2010 Rhino remastered cd 🙂
