BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982
“Situation” is a 1982 single by the British synthpop band, Yazoo. The song was originally released in the UK as the B-side to Yazoo’s debut single, “Only You”, which went to number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Released as a single in North America, the song peaked at number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, and hit the top 40 in Canada, peaking at number 31. In late summer 1982 it became Yazoo’s first song to top the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, remaining at number one on this chart for four weeks. It also crossed over to the R&B chart, peaking at number 31.
The song features a memorable synthesizer hook by Vince Clarke (similar to the work he had done with his previous band, Depeche Mode), combined with the vocals by Alison Moyet (including her laughter, which has since been sampled in countless other songs, including the international novelty dance hit “Macarena”).

Paul, sou do Brazil não consigo fazer nenhum download….
consegui, Yes, thanks Paul … Brasil
Paul, haven’t heard this for a long time. So glad to get to hear it in your analogue to digital lossless one-of-a-kind quality. Do record companys often offer you paying gigs to restore their vinyl remixes for their 20 or 30 year remix collections that are often being released nowadays? I know Tabu in the past year released a few of their 80s signed artists in remastered albums and 12″ remix compilations by the same artist or mixer, I’ve only ordered a couple of them, they did several remastered CDs each for some of their artists like Cherrelle, The S.O.S.… Read more »
Thanks Paul!
Amazing sound quality for a 30 yrs old vynil, no a single glitch, congrats Paul.
thank you once and again-have a great weekend, mate
Will You release “Don’t Go” as well? I’m looking for the Yaz/Sunfire – Don’t Go/Shake Your Body (Sire Records Company – PRO-A-1072, Warner Bros. Records – PRO-A-1072), (12″ US ’82): Don’t Go (Long Version) 5:59 . This one is quite difficult to locate..
Thanks.
Can’t be that hard to locate, there are 7 copies for sale on Discogs….
Ah yes, one of those early custom sleeves before they decided to add art to those. I was also sold on “Bring Your Love Down (Didn’t I)” as single (didn’t happen) from this.
IF I’d like to buy…not.
When a song with-stands the test of time, you know it’s a classic! Great remixes by François for this legendary duo, none of the later mixes of this song come even close to this 12inch. Only Ben Liebrand did a nice (Special Dub/Vocal Edit) which he released on his historic compilation Grand 12-Inches. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Grand-12-Inches/release/183186 Initially the song wasn’t even included on the UK or EU album release, of Upstairs At Eric’s ,only later on the CD reissue they included, of course ,this US remix of Situation, which was included on the US pressing of the album. 80s,and I was there, and Paul… Read more »
Another great 80s flashback, Paul!
They had such a short-lived but BRILLIANT career. Sad and strange that the tension between Vince and Alison is so errr….tense.
A worthy single and should not have been just a B-side to Only You, which was intended as Vince’s parting gift to Depeche Mode but the group rejected the song offer.
Situation is another of those 80s classics that got remixed over and over again throughout the years.
Tainted Love, Blue Monday, You Spin Me Round…put your hands up. LOL!
Don’t forget “Relax” as well. I never got into the 90’s remixes I really enjoyed the original. It’s interesting that “Situation” did not appear on the 1982 UK LP and Cassette it didn’t show up until ’86.
Ah, but less or more tense since the last tour? Time tends to heal wounds, as well as mellow people.
Is the A side just the album version? Thanks!
Great disc – thanks for the rip. By amazing coincidence I got a copy of this yesterday:

Coll Alone With Strangers. I never picked up the 90’s mixes.
Thanks Paul… a classic I never actually picked up the proper 12″ on!
You’re welcome JTF 🙂
I thought their name was shortened to Yaz for the US market?
Went to see them on the Reconnected tour, was v exciting as I never imagined them ever getting back together. jeez I can’t believe that was 5 years ago already..! Was really cool to see them enjoying it too.
Wish I could have seen that show I bet it was really a fun time. They were known as Yaz in the US and Canada don’t know why the sleeve says Yazoo maybe an early pressing.
I’m hoping that tour was only the first reunion…hoping. 🙂
This is one of the great in the history of the 12-inch. Thank you.
I agree Charly. You’re welcome 🙂
Thank you for this track I love Dub version … never heard it before
You’re welcome MAN!
A CLASSIC and a half! Thank you Paul!
You’re welcome Kenneth 🙂
I love the 12″ mix. Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
Thank you Paul. This was the first 12″ I ever purchased. Thanks for the great covers as well. All the best.
You’re welcome Kookoo. A great one to begin your record collection with 🙂
Kookoo, same EXACT story here. I ran across a used copy of this, and while I have like 2 or 3 copies more in better shape (forgetting other editions and pressings), I still have that crackly scratched copy. It means so much to me now as an introduction to the world of Vince Clarke. 🙂
