BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982
While no longer in busines Hot Tracks was the LONGEST-RUNNING DJ Remix Service in the World! Based here in my home town Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Hot Tracks for years and years was carried in THOUSANDS of DJ’s Crates, as the goto service for remix edits and creative ideas on the dancefloors. For a while HOT TRACKS was known for being one of the most creative, and interesting remix services available to DJ’s. Hot Tracks was an invaluable service and an important piece of HISTORY!
This issue was released for the Christmas Season 1982 hence the inclusion of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” by Steve Algozino who gives the traditiona carol contemporary space age madness. Probably the most sought after remix in this set is “Nasty Girl” retitled “Nasty Nasty Girl” by Vanity 6. This song inclines towards the highly suggestive and downright dirty lyrics. Hot Tracks didn’t help matters any by creating “Nasty Nasty Girls”, by rearranging the entire song to enhance the already enthusiastic synthesized strings, bass line and lyrics. The new mix runs almost 8 minutes and moves quickly with a 7 inch introduction.
This set also includes “It’s A Shame” by The Spinners a Motown classic taken from The Best Of The Spinners LP released in 1973. The track has been lenghtened with new percussion tracks and equalization so that it can be mixed easily with today’s down tempo material.
Hope that you enjoy this great set of remixes from Hot Tracks.

Hi DJ Paul, do you also have HOT TRACKS Season 8-1? (with Secession)
Good Morning Paul, I had wanted to comment yesterday, but really didn’t have the chance. It is so sad about Vanity. So many of our artists are passing away so sudden, it’s really heart breaking. Thank you for memorializing so many of the people who touch our lives. You touch my life Paul with everything you do. Thanks for all my personal records you’ve ripped and for these remix services too. So many of them are lost to time and you seem to be the only one who archives them properly. I really want Select Mix, who owns the Hot… Read more »
Hi DJPaulT:
I have a question. I saw this Hot Tracks series for sale seen here > http://www.discogs.com/Various-Series-4-Issue-6/release/1236059
This is one I owned when it was released. If I donate to you will you be interested in getting it for us. Just suggesting. Thanks 🙂
Hi GGNYC yes I would be willing to get that one. Looks like a Near Mint copy is $29.00 plus shipping. If you donate for this one please put in the note that it is for Hot Tracks.
Hi DjPaul:
I tipped your jar and sent you an email. Please forward any responses to my email. Cool? 🙂 Thanks.
Wow, Paul. This is precedent-setting.
I never thought you would touch remix service releases, but I suppose I understand that you won’t pulled in to a unmarked van and put in solitary with an old Hot Tracks disc compared to some others like…um…”BladeButler”. 😀
Still, Joe @ “BladeButler” was more fond of synthpop, and I would love to see those discs here too…provided we will hear from you again after posting them. 😉
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! MORE HOT TRACKS PLEASE!!! DJ’s best kept secret for years!
Love Hot Tracks. My very first purchase from them included “Never Ending Story” from Limahl, “No More Lonely Nights” from Paul McCartney, and “The War Song” by Culture Club- an amazing introduction to their releases. I hope you will continue to offer some of these beautiful compilations, so deserving of being heard again after all this time.
Thank you for sharing this issue of Hot Tracks. I’m a fan of Jim Burgess and the sound of the groove is excellent. Great job! I bought one issue of Hot Tracks back in 1985 as I can I remember it was like 25 dollars. It was expensive but I enjoyed every track in my boombox while it lasted. Fun times 🙂
thank you!
You’re welcome Angie 🙂
DJPaulT!!!! God, how I worship you!!!! I was devastated when Hot Tracks folded after being absorbed by Select Mix. Such memories and incredible mixes. Huge fan of the 1984 amd 1985 megamixes, which I’m praying that someday – ONE DAY – you might remaster as well, if you own them. Yes, Disconet was the first, but Hot Tracks came and gave us Bradley D. Hinkle who formed Ultimix, Joseph Watt, who formed Razormaid!, and Cameron Paul who went on to make Mixx-It. It’s so tragic that this remix service is no longer with us. I mean, like mentioned above, Chris… Read more »
That’s quite an honor that you have bestowed upon mr Jeff I really appreciate it 🙂 Which 84/85 Megamixes are you reffering too I need to look them up? My favorite is the “Attack Of The Disco Queens” Megamix.
Paul
hey dj!!!!
thanx a lot for that Hot Tracks issue!!!!!!
i love remixes and i’m very happy i own that 15th Anniversary Collectors Edition!!!!!!
great!!!! great!!!! great!!!!
You’re welcome my friend. I used to have that box set myself but it was stolen one night when I was djing 🙁 It wqas pretty expensive too.
What a find!
Thanks Dean!
OHMYGOD!!!!!!! Gimmemorepliiiiz! Hot tracks/Disconet/Discotech/Razormaid!/Ultimix/DMC/Art Of Mix/Swemix are the ones!! Bring it on!!!! Some are so rare fans keep them off from the circle like hell. Sweet.
I’ll do my best Chris 🙂
Great job Paul. Thanks…
Thank you Rob 🙂
Hot Tracks and Disconet are very cool when I was young…. Thanks so much Paul
You’re welcome Hkfriends 🙂
Awesome! For some reason, I passed up on many of the Hot Tracks mixes and went with Razormaid. Not sure why, that was some time ago. Thanks for this one. I have created a ‘new’ file just for the Hot Tracks material…lol!
You’re very welcome RA hopefully we can get that folder filled up over time 🙂
Hot Tracks and Disconet were always in my crates. I’m really glad to see that you’ve included a remix service in your blog. As great as the twelve inch single is, sometimes it is the remix service that helps catapult a track to the top (like the Hot Tracks mix of Donna Summer’s “Love’s About To Change My Heart” and ABBA’s “The Visitors”). Great job on this post, Paul, and here’s hoping that other issues (preferably the early years) will be featured.
You said it Gianni sometimes I prefered the remix service mix over the commercial one. I hope to feature more as time goes on 🙂
Wow! This is excellent!
Although I’m partial to official remixes, I depend on remix services like Hot Tracks when there isn’t a proper official 12″ remix.
Case in point is Nasty Girls here. Woo Hoo! What a remix! Also keen to hear how they ooomphed up It’s A Shame.
This post though, is no shame at all!
Thanks Paul!
You’re welcome Ric. Yeah there were many like “Nast Girls” for example as mentioned above ABBA “The Visitors” and even ONJ’s “Physical”. Another bit of triviChris Cox (formerly of Thunderpuss) worked for Hot Tracks.
I didn’t know that Hot Tracks had folded up. One of the greats and, boy, did they last a long time. So many other services didn’t make it to even 5 years.
Yeah they were the giant of Remix Services.
Thanks Paul. I’ve always loved HotTracks mixes when I could find them. Have to say that from what I’ve come across that their Abba remix of The Visitors has been may favourite so far. So will be interested to hear more of their work and maybe have new favourites. If you could dig out more HotTracks that would be a huge bonus for all!!! Thanks Again 🙂
You’re very welcome Erwin yeah that ABBA mis is really good. I will see what I can come up with 🙂
Interesting to read all this information on the label.
Hot Tracks didn’t really cross over the ocean, if I recall well. Mixes done by or for Disconet did.
I’m gonna listen to this post with much attention!
Hope you like it 🙂
Always my favourite remix house. Unlike some we could mention, they moved with the times both in terms of the music they remixed and the techniques they used. I have LOTS of their mixes in my collection. Much missed.
My favorite remix service as well Jonathan. They were always a step ahead of the others. I was always so proud that they were based in my city Tulsa 🙂
Thanks for this (and all the other fantastic vinyl rips). cheers from London
You’re welcome Matt 🙂
I love this. And I miss Hot Tracks.
Me too Conner they used to be about 6 miles from my house 🙂
Ok, yeah, one more reason to envy you! It would have taken everything I had not to just “drop in” to meet Chris Cox. 🙂
I hear ya! He’s quite the hottie 🙂
Wow! I am thrilled to see a Hot Tracks 12″ here at BTG. There are some seriously great remixes to be found on Hot tracks vinyl. Can’t wait to listen to this. All the best, and thank you.
Enjoy Kookoo!
