OMG! This Da Da Da track was re-cut in about 1991~ish (??) and used in national TV advertising for the new Volkswagons!
It was a very popular ad as I recall, mostly because of this catchy tune.
Thanks for this winner, PaulT!
Epic song 🙂 BTW, have you heard this alternative track called ”Frau A Spricht Ich Lieb Dich Nicht Du Liebst Mich Nicht”? There’s only a female vocal and it’s so good to listen! Maybe you’ll get this 12” too (Mercury – 6400 544)? Thanks.
Hard to believe as much as this got played on radio and video in the US it never charted, though it was a monster hit worldwide. It used to be on the elite list of best-selling singles since it supposedly sold 13 million copies:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_singles
but is no longer on this list. Hmmmm
Very Good. Thank You, Paul.
Thanks a ton for this Paul!
You’re welcome, Grant 🙂
What an absolutely horrible song… …that I sing along with every time I hear it! Such fond memories from a distant past! Thanks for this Paul!
Lol, you’re welcome, dugn. 🙂
Aahhh… the memories 😀
Didn’t know this fun was popular or even known in N.America too.
It felt so cool, even in German, made you feel like a laughing intellectual or something, now let’s enjoy ourselves, and then turn to Cabaret Voltaire next.
DoDoDo right,or something. 😀
Thanks Paul, unexpected and nice surprise. 😀
You’re welcome, HoTo 🙂
5 MILLION STARS! You have to love the fact that this song started as a joke during their punk concerts – with them making fun of electronic music by demonstrating a song could be played on a simple Casio VL-1 – and somehow became a monster hit that somehow still remains relevant today!
Thank you yet again, Paul!
You’re welcome, Martika have a great weekend 🙂
Yeah Germany rocks. No, kidding aside. That is the NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle) Song at all. No radio station that played this song out and down at the time. Then of course in German. Short and recurring text “ich lieb’ dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht” (“I don’t love you, you don’t love me”). Easy to notice. And naturly the Casio VL-1.
Ah, what memories!! My friend, who went to study in Germany years ago, brought the single back with her and introduced it to me. Delightfully different and vey memorable, it’s great that you’ve brought it back to our ears, Paul!!
Thank you, Paul, for a tremendous week of flashbacks from 1982!! Have a wonderful weekend Paul, Song And Dance, Retro Hound, Fred and the rest!!
Jeff
Have a nice weekend 🙂
Thank you Jeff and thank you Paul for another wonderful week of posts! Have a great weekend all!
What a great one! Makes me smile just hearing it after all these years, thanks!
You’re welcome, Raymond 🙂
