“One ofhe Living t” is a 1985 song recorded by the American singer Tina Turner and became a hit in North-America, peaking in the top 15 in both U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Singles chart. The theme is played over the “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”‘s opening credits.
The track was one of two songs Turner recorded for the soundtrack for the Australian post-apocalyptic film (in which she also co-starred alongside Mel Gibson). The song was written by Holly Knight who also wrote The Best and Better Be Good To Me, two other mega hits for Tina Turner.
“One of the Living” won Turner a Grammy Award for “Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female”. The song enjoyed a moderate success in Europe and also appears on Turner’s UK hits compilation The Platinum Collection.

Hey Paul, Great selection for Black History Month! As big as “One Of The Living” was here in the US, it’s sadly not included on most of her compilations that always include her lesser-known tracks. Maybe there are licensing complexities because it was in a movie. I’m happy to finally have the hard-to-find 12″ mixes I missed in your original post.
Thank you, gj xrey. This is partly the reason I love doing new transfers for those that missed these gems the first time around. I have also done many improvements to my gear since these were originally posted. Enjoy and thank you for commenting 🙂
We Don’t Need Another Hero got all the attention, but this is the more rocking, kicka$$ song! Written by Holly Knight, how can you go wrong? Thank you for the new pristine rip and giving this the attention that it deserves!
I agree with you RH I “One Of The Living” is the superior track it should have been much bigger. 🙂
Paul — just like Tina, you’re “simply the best!” Thank you so much for this superb transfer. The sonic quality is excellent!
Thank you Brian John 🙂
This is a huge favorite of mine, Paul. Kudos for the brand-new rip! I loved this more than “We Don’t Need Another Hero” because it seemed way more dramatic! Love the dub version especially! Thompson and Barbiero did another phenomenal mix!! I love these guys so much!! I think that’s what I love most about your site Paul, is that it’s not just celebrating the artists and their songs, but it’s reveling in the work of the producers and the remixers!! These guys don’t get the attention they absolutely deserve, except when they show up on your page. I love… Read more »
You’re welcome, Jeff Steve Thompson is a regular visitor on our Facebook page 🙂
maybe the only (?) release where she is holding a guitar? Great one, thanks
You’re welcome 🙂
Fun post! I’m geeking out over the Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero mixing credit and the Shoot That Tiger! Sleeve design credit. Memories…
Great memories for sure 🙂
