I like this song and Stephen Duffy´s voice but I prefer the 1985 JJ Jeczalik “Mix Plural” by far.
What I like even more is Duffy´s 12inch “Icing On The Cake” – the only Stephen Duffy record I have ever bought. I LOVE that song and its long version. Hint hint. 😉

And then, following up the Flock Of Seagulls 12″ with this…

You’re into some rich ore right now. Nicely done. 🙂

There are a bunch of recordings of “Kiss Me”. The original 1982 Bob Lamb mix is a bit annoying. The first “hit” version is the 1983 U.S. remix by François Kevorkian (Billboard Dance #13). This was a major KROQ hit in 1983, and is still played today on their “ROQ of the 80s” stream, but wasn’t promoted to pop radio here and did not chart on the hot 100. Sire also released a 3-1/2 minute 7″ François K. US single edit for radio (not yet listed on Discogs) that appears on the Just Say Sire 4-CD compilation. The Virgin/10 UK hit… Read more »

Although this version didn’t chart in the UK, it was MASSIVE in nightclubs in Birmingham and the West Midlands, along with another ‘non-chart hit’ that Paul recently uploaded – “Welcome To The Monkey House” by Animal Magnet.
The 1985 version of ‘Kiss Me’ was more successful chart-wise, driven not least by interest generated by the production/mix by Art Of Noise.
However, the original version is far more catchy and dance-floor friendly – a real STONKER, as we say in these parts!!

I remember first reading about this song in the old trade magazine, “Dance Music Report” and they said that for anyone loving Yazoo should check this out. As a huge fan of the band and electronic dance music I had to buy it. Not that it sounded anything like Yazoo, I loved the electronic feel of this band. Thank you so much Paul for doing this song. It’s always been a favorite and helped shape my musical tastes.

Have a marvelous weekend Paul!!!!

The singer on this track Stephen Duffy was the original singer in Duran Duran, before Simon Le Bon joined the band.

He released a new version of this song a few years later under the name Stephen Tin Tin Duffy, which was a big hit in the UK. I have that version, but had never heard the original.

I should have listened to it before posting…
I have heard this version before. The one I have is a gatefold double 12″, one record with the 1985 remake, the other with this original 1983 version.
I think I prefer this version.

Nick Rhodes and Stephen went back when a cassette of one of their live shows was found in an old desk in storage …they took the songs, wrote a couple new ones, using vintage myths and such, creating Dark Circles released as The Devils…fantastic piece of the DD history! Stephen also was in the band The Lilac Time, If I remember right…
