Tiffany – Radio Romance (UK 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusivev1988

“Radio Romance” is the second single from Tiffany’s second album Hold an Old Friend’s Hand in the US and the first from the album in the UK and Australia.

By early 1989 radio was changing and the genres played were switching to hip hop and R&B music. There was less room for young pop acts such as Tiffany. As a result, “Radio Romance” failed to achieve the success of her previous singles. It made the Top 40 in the US and managed to become a hit in the UK, where it reached #13.

In Japan, the song and Tiffany were featured in TV commercials for Meiji “Lucky” chocolate sticks.

The music video for “Radio Romance” was one of Tiffany’s most surreal. In the video, she plays a waitress in a diner who calls the radio request line often to request a song for her secret crush. The problem is that he is holding hands with her best friend. Later in the video, Tiffany dances with others in what looks like a dream sequence. As the video progresses, a child appears with a magic wand which furthers the video’s fantasy nature.

To promote the single in the US, Tiffany performed the song on the Mickey Mouse Club and The Arsenio Hall Show.

Thanks for this. Can you recommend a reliable/safe FLAC to M4A converter for MAC?

Excellent variety Paul, thank you! Tiffany and Debbie Gibson had some great pop hits at the end of the decade.

Thank for this post, Paul.
As much as I like this song, it does not compare to “I Think Were Alone Now”. I might be biased because I also like the original by Tommy James and the Shondells.

The more songs you post, the more I realize how much I miss the music of the 80s. Nothing beats the 12in releases. It was also a great time for some great “B” movies.

Hi Paul. I haven’t heard this song before but I’m interested in checking it out. Enjoyed Tiffany’s previous two records so this will be fun listening to this one. Again, it’s great that you post all kinds of musical genres on your site for so many individuals’ tastes. Many thanks!
