I just love that period of music between late 87 and the beginning of the 90’s. Bands like Then Jerico, The Big Dish, The Bible, Black, Deacon Blue, Diesel Park West and The Adventures crafted brilliant pieces of melodic dreamy rock just at the time as I was a teenager starting to really enjoy music. On a darker tone, The Church, Peter Murphy and Depeche Mode also made authentic masterpieces by then. The Big Area album wasn’t really that obscure; Big Area had plenty of airplay at the time, as well as the other two singles from that album, What… Read more »
Oh, it would be great having the late 80’s and early 90’s singles from TEXAS. Just sayin’… 🙂
A fatastic, much underrated band with an awesome vocalist, THEM JERICO shoud’ve had been a lot bigger than they actually were. I keep in touch – occasionally – with Mark Shaw and can say he’s a down-to-Earth guy, pretty much like your next door neighbor.Keep coming more THEN JERICO, Paul. Greetings from Brazil…
So good to see another Totally-Obscure-80s post. Thank you so much Paul. I love this band. There is one single I’m still looking for: Let her fall. The 12″ mix is called “The Absolute Version” and it’s awesome. I wonder if you have it.
You’re welcome, daniel. Pretty sure I have “Let Her Fall” I will check to make sure 🙂
Thanks ever so much Paul for this. You were the person who introduced me to this band in the first place and I’m better for it that you did. Love the involvement of Gary Langan (from Art Of Noise), Bob Clearmountain and the fabulous Martin Rushent. This sounds like a dream. Can’t wait!!!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff 🙂
I have never heard this song and it doesn’t seem to have charted in the USA. However, HOWEVER, I really like this!! It’s a mystery to me why it never got any USA airplay but I’ll happily play it! 🙂
If you look at the profile pix on Discogs, one of the guys in the band looks just like the lead singer of A-HA (at least to me).
Thanks for this gem, Paul!!
Happily I noticed I have the Lost Mix of Big Area on the so80s volume 8 cd which clocks in at 6:13 and rocks! It was released on their Sugar Box single. If others here like Big Area, find this 6:13 mix on youtube to take a listen.
Enjoy all!
They are pretty obscure in the USA oddly they never charted on the Billboard hot 100 agree the lead vocalist Mark Shaw looks a lot like Morten Harket lead vocalist of a-ha. I also have the “Sugar Box” 12″ with the “Lost Mix” of “Big Area”.
It’s almost as if you are challenging us to compare your future rip of the Lost Mix to the so80’s track. 😉
