I remember “Cheerio” and “(Stay with Me) Jeanette”. Both were big hits in Argentina. Thank you Paul.
Great track from a little known (in the US) band. Not to be confused with the San Diego based Power Pop/New Wave one-hit wonder The Monroes who released “What Do All the People Know” in 1982. Thanks.
Paul!! Count me in as a fan of The Monroes too! And I loved what Jermajesty had to say about what you’re posting. I feel like I’m back in the 1980’s, discovering new music all the time. This is music I love and it’s better because you’re the one “playing” the records. It’s like I’m discovering things left and right and at all turns. You are amazing. I hate to use such an overused adjective, but you are so above extraordinary; like,…. you’re miraculous! I just worship you Paul. You’re just the sweetest and knowledgeable person I know. Thank you… Read more »
I usually begin to comment with “Wow Paul!” but now I have to say “wow Jeff!”. What a wonderful comment. I totally agree with you. You express in words exactly what I feel deep inside of me. Yes Paul is amazing with everything he does but you are amazing too with your outstanding comments. I really feel blessed to be part of this wonderful community.
In honesty
Daniel
Daniel, thank you so very much for your kind words. You are such an incredibly sweet person and I love that you and I and so many others are involved with Paul’s beautiful Burning The Ground site sharing in all the music displayed and discovering like minded individuals here. I love reading of your utter excitement when Paul rips a record that is most dear to you. You have got to be one of the nicest people I’ve never met. I think the world of you Daniel. Paul’s site attracts special people and you’re one of them. Have a nice… Read more »
Love these Totally Obscure 8’s records! Please keep them coming!
Never heard about The Monroes. I like this song. The guitar sounds great. It makes me think a bit of Roxette’s Dressed for success. Thank you Paul for introducing me to this norwegian band. Please keep up this fantastic series of Totally Obscure 80s.
Bonus beats. Just purchased their album “Face another day” on discogs. It contains this single and another song I just discovered on youtube. That’s the wonderful ballad “Cheerio”. I’m so happy about this new discovery and that is all because of you Paul. My music angel striked again 🙂
Thanks Paul.
I’ve got to hand it to you Paul – it’s 7/7 so far in your Totally Obscure 80s – neither me nor my friends have heard of any of these tracks, or bands, which is quite remarkable, esp given that you’re posting a lot of British stuff. This one sounds a bit J. Geils Band (Centrefold), and also reminds me of something like Squeeze or Joe Jackson. BTW do you know the Joe Jackson song It’s Different For Girls? It’s frikkin’ awesome. Please keep up your total obscureness. I’ll never forget the day you posted Toto Coelo’s fourth single. You’re… Read more »
Thank you Jermajesty It’s good to see you it’s been a while 🙂
Looks like the wrong front cover, Paul!
What cover are you seeing?
All sorted now – it originally appeared as Hall & Oates’ Possession Obsession!
Thanks for letting me know. It was acting buggy for some reason 🙂
