BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982
“Red Skies” is a song by new wave/rock band the Fixx. Released in 1982, it was the third single from the group’s debut album, Shuttered Room. It reached number 13 on the U.S. Billboard Album Rock Tracks but only peaked at number 101 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart in early 1983.
The song also charted in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. It was later re-recorded for the band’s 1987 album, React.
The lyrics of “Red Skies” warn of an imminent nuclear holocaust.

I love this song. Thanks for sharing Paul. Hope your vacation is going well.
Thank you for such a gem from the The Fixx! The bass guitar! OMG, such fantastic, dynamic sound quality. Ahhhhhhh audio treasures in Hi-Res. Thank you for the listening experience and for your love of the labor, sir!
Thanks Paul. This one passed me by even though you say it charted here and even though they were a British band. Guitar sound very Comsat Angels…

Hi Paul, The hits just keep on coming. I was expecting this, but wasn’t sure, and then it showed up. Great choice. This was definitely one of their landmark songs back when they started out. They also had a minor hit with ‘stand or fall’ also. Of course, later, people would know them for ‘one thing leads to another’. But at the time, their earlier album was much more moody, and evocative. The band is still around, and still touring and making new albums. They still have the original members, and are definitely worth catching if they are near you.… Read more »
Covered with chills (AGAIN!!) Paul!! What an intense way to wrap up the week of apocalyptic songs! This has always been a personal favorite of mine. Such an earworm that lodges in your brain for hours/days and weeks! And sometimes, I’ll admit, that I wasn’t really aware of what they were singing. I take song lyrics as a whole entity with the melodies and beats all at once and only reflect on their meaning after the initial presentation upon my ears, body and soul. It amazes me that such songs can be so grim but sound so “uplifting.” I guess… Read more »
