BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1990
“Love Shack” is a single by American new wave band The B-52’s from their 1989 album Cosmic Thing. It was released on June 20, 1989, and produced by Don Was. The song was a comeback of sorts for the band following their decline in popularity in the mid-1980s and the death of guitarist Ricky Wilson in 1985.
“Love Shack” is considered the band’s signature song and has been a concert staple since its release. Commercially, the single topped the charts in Australia, Ireland and New Zealand and reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, and number five on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart. It also became a top-twenty hit in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Cool. Just saw them play in Philly. Have not heard the mix that is on the a-side. Curious to hear this mix. Thanks for posting Paul.
Love this song been looking for the 12” online for a while thanks for posting
Thanks for posting this one, Paul. It had been conspicuously absent from your B-52’s online collection. I purchased a different 12-inch presentation when it came out. Love it!
Amazing – thanks so much for sharing this!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this cover before…. they look so normal without their hair makeup and costumes…. Thanks Paul for another hidden treasure.
I love also how Ricky Wilson is in the picture since he had already passed away in 1985.
It’s not Ricky. It’s Keith.
Wow! Never heard that Rampling Mix! Thank you!
You’re welcome Jon 🙂
Thanks, Paul! That Side A mix is quite strange. I never heard it before or even knew it existed. I have all the other mixes but always felt that Love Shack was just one of those songs that the original would always stand out as best. I think that feeling was due to the amount of horns as well as that the song felt like you were on a beach party with Annette Funicello. 🙂
Thanks so much! And the sound quality is terrific!
-Fred
You’re welcome, Fred the A-side is vinyl if I am not mistaken and it is a little strange I prefer the original too. 🙂 Oh and thanks for commenting about the sound quality I am super happy with the new equipment.
This tune brings back so many memories for me Paul. It was so worth the wait for it. I never requested it because, well, you’re almost psychic and you read my mind on many, many occasions, that I knew you’d get to it eventually (Good things come to those who wait, you know!). This always could get a party started. I remember Karen and I went to an afternoon wedding, and it was quite dull. Requested this one, and magic happened. People were up and dancing. Ah, all sorts of nostalgia creeps over me because of your excellent rips Paul.… Read more »
Great story Jeff I love hearing things like this. I plan to post the US 12″ eventually which has some different mixes on it. 🙂 If I am not mistaken the Danny Rampling mix is vinyl only.
