Meticulous NEW Restoration!
Originally posted September 10, 2015
“Party Fears Two” is a 1982 single by Scottish post-punk/new wave band The Associates, released from their second studio (and third album in total) Sulk. The song became their breakthrough Top 20 and best-known hit, peaking at #9 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted on the Irish Singles Chart at #16. With its iconic honky-tonk piano line, “Party Fears Two” was a magnificent song about dealing with the perils of schizophrenia.
The band performed the song on the BBC television show Top of the Pops.
“Party Fears Two” has been covered by several artists, including The Divine Comedy, Heaven 17, King Creosote, and Dan Bryk. “Party Fears Two” was used as an instrumental section for the theme music on BBC Radio 4 satirical current affairs series Week Ending.
The b-side “It’s Better This Way” is an alternate version from both the UK and US album versions.

Could you please re-upload this 12″ and all the others Associates 12″? Thank you so much
Cool to see this record remastered. I remember your original transfer so I am looking forward to hearing this new rip.
Thanks Paul 🙂
One of my favourites – I grabbed it before, I’ll grab it again! Thank you Paul. This is turning into quite a week on BTG.
You’re welcome, Jermajesty. I hope you enjoy the new transfer 🙂
Happy to see The Associates back on your site Paul. They are a great band and you have introduced me to some very good songs by them. Thanks so much!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. I love this band so much I remember the original post got a really good reception I hope this one does too. 🙂
Me too. Where have all the commenters gone? You used to get a lot of feedback from listeners and now, I don’t see many commenting like they used to do. I love reading the many responses myself and am a little disappointed that nobody seems to be paying much attention. Forgive the criticizing, but you are giving us wonderful music in outstanding quality, a person can at least say thank you.
For all of those that do write comments, I know Paul just loves it. Enthusiasm from people makes things happen.
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
to start, BTG is one of my all time favourite web sites. I used to comment the
records I liked most. But since Paul started to politize BTG to push that abomination of a “President” I decided to never comment again.
I understand its his site and he can do whatever he wants, its just how I feel
about it. That being said I appreciate the Love and Devotion Paul puts in his rips and I am thankful for that.
Stefan
You should have stopped before this one. No one cares what you think – it’s Paul’s site, and he can do with it whatever the hell he wants.
