Burning The Ground Exclusive 1984
TOTALLY OBSCURE 80s!
“Shake It Right” is a 1984 single by the electronic duo Six Sed Red.
Keyboard player Rick Holliday founded the group from the group B-Movie and New York “singer” Cindy Ecstasy who had featured on the Soft Cell hit Torch in 1982. However, Marc Almond has since stated that her primary function was “the supply of ecstasy”. They had a big underground club hit with Shake It Right on the Label Sire Records Company in 1984 produced by Flood & Cabaret Voltaire.
Six Sed Red shared Soft Cell’s lyrical preoccupations with sleaze and sexual titillation but not their commercial success. Their only brush with the charts was the cover of their song “Dream Baby” on Bananarama’s self-titled LP in 1984.
The band played concerts at London’s Skin 2 fetish club and with the patronage of Sigue Sigue Sputnik’s Tony James expanded the lineup in 1987. Recognition however continued to elude them.

yes please, a clean rip of this 10″ would be great. I have a copy but it’s scratched. 🙁 Also a big Soft Cell fan and have all the side singles that I know of like The Burmore Bros.
Wow, I actually just got this 12″ and now I can hear your pristine rip. Big Soft Cell fan here, and this has been an elusive piece of wax. So very cool, I think Marc Almond and Cindy Ecstasy were actually a couple for a while. Despite Soft Cell being a duo, there were so many people in the background that really filled out their sound, as well like Vicious Pink Phenomena, Matt Johnson et al, and of course, the best drugs that moeny could buy. It’s a shame a full album never came out, but they likely only had… Read more »
I hope you enjoy it, Joey 🙂
Wow looking forward to this obscurity loaded with no-so-obscure collaborators and cross references! Thanks for this it looks to be a very cool post!
Thank you, ING. 🙂
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!.!.! THANK YOU!!! You can definitely hear Cabaret Voltaire’s “Sensoria” in this remix, which they had just released 2 years prior. It sounds like they reused their own rhythm track and bassline and modified it for this remix! OUTSTANDING SHARE, PAUL!!! p.s.: Do you know if there is an “original version” of “Ecstasy – Dream Baby” or was it directly written for Bananarama?
Thank you, Martika. Not sure of an original version of that song Martika I really don’t know anything further about it.
Sensoria was ’84 so came after this
This is a very nice upload, that I had hoped for quite a while, not only here. Thank you so much Paul! However, I am not happy with some parts of your text about Cindy Ecstacy. I think you underestimate the role she played for Soft Cell. Almond’s witty remarks aside about her assumed role as a „drug dealer for the band“ (true or not), she sang a lot more than only the fantastic duet on „Torch“, but also on „Insecure Me“ (also great!) and on 4 tracks alone on the album „Untitled“ by Marc & The Mambas in the… Read more »
Thank you for your comment HoTo 🙂
I perked right up when I saw this come on-line!! Awesome in every way!! What an extraordinary lineup too!! Cindy Ecstasy, Flood and Cabaret Voltaire, all on Sire Records!! This is a tremendous find Paul and I’m very grateful to you for posting it. I can’t wait to listen. As a major Soft Cell fan, this appears to be right up my alley. Thank you, tons!!!
Jeff
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this one, Jeff I know you are a huge Soft Cell fan 🙂
