BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982
Q-Feel was a British synthpop group. They released their self-titled album in 1982, which included their only hit single, “Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop).”
“Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)” was an entry in the 1982 A Song For Europe, the UK’s pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. It finished sixth (out of eight) behind eventual winners Bardo. The song was also featured in the 1985 dance film, Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
The somg charted twice on the Billboard charts first in 1982 peaking at #110 and again in 1989 peaking at #75. The song did much better on the US dance charts peaking at #18 in June of 1982.
Group frontman Martin Page went on to achieve success as a songwriter and solo artist. His highly successful debut solo album, 1994’s In the House of Stone and Light featured contributions from former Q-Feel bandmates Trevor Thornton and Brian Fairweather.

This is another British band who are completely unknown in the UK. Paul, you have a habit of finding these!
I can see why this wasn’t a hit here, compared to their synthpop contemporaries they were maybe a little MOR with their sound. It also sounds very american (esp. his accent) which a lot of UK synth acts tried not to do.
Always good to learn about these curiosities though. I love the idea that it was absolutely huge in Mexico. 🙂
The lead singer is Martin Page he had a big hit in the early 90’s with “In The House Of Stone And Light” maybe you’ll recognize it. Here is the video

Never heard of this band, the lead singer or either of the songs. None of them have graced the UK Top 75 (or the UK’s airwaves, I suspect) at any time.
You need to get to the states then. That and “Keeper Of the Flame” got a LOT of radio airplay there. I only wish there were 12″s of those two that Paul could acquire and post. They could really use some mixes.
Also, everyone ought to know Martin also helped pen Go West’s “King Of Wishful Thinking”, (Jefferson) Starship’s “We Built This City”, and Heart’s one synthpop masterpiece, “These Dreams”. Listen to them all and you can hear Martin’s style there. He’s shaped pop music of the 80’s and 90’s more than most know.
Been to the States many times, but not sure I can make it in 1982 without a time machine! 😉

I’d never heard that jazzy intro before. Neat. (And the sound is surprisingly good; the few Mexico 12″s. I’ve had over the years were OK but not a patch on a UK or japanese pressing but this sounds better than my CD version.) Thanks!

This song was HUGE in Mexico (hense that you are using the Mexican pressing) and can still be heard at 80’s retro parties. I’m surprised it didn’t do much on US radio.
I wanted the UK release but I found this one used. I have had bad luck with Mexico pressings in the past not sounding very good but this one sounds good.
