BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Living In A World (Turned Upside Down)” is the fifth single released by the British duo Private Lives released in January 1984. It was written by John Adams and produced by Adams and Pete Schwier. The single peaked at No. 53 on the British singles charts in February of that year, remaining in the top 100 for five weeks. The success of the single was helped by a support slot on Hall and Oates’ tour of the United Kingdom.
The band only released on LP titled “Prejudice and Pride”.

WOW!!!! Difficult to find!!! I love this song!! Very successful in Uruguay in those years!!! THANKS!!!
Good opportunity to ask you if you have The Blue Hour – Raise The Dragon / Intimate Strangers (1984) THANKS!!!
There’s another perfect version of this song. I wish you will get it
Did Hall and Oates also name the band? I keep reading “Private Lives” and “hearing” Hall and Oates. 😀
Great post! Big thanks for this one!
It was said, I repeat, AMAZING bro, AMAZING
Thank you 🙂
Thank you Paul for another fine posting. You have amazing tastes!!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff 🙂
How I love this Totally Obscure series. Private Lives is another much underrated band. This is my favourite single by them. One year later the singer John Adams started a solo career with the single “Through the eyes of love” which is also available here on BTG and is one of my favourites ever. I’m with Omar, their album “Prejudice and pride” deserves a remastered CD release but thanks to you Paul, we get their singles in usual pristine sound quality so they get a second chance to be discovered or reheard. Paul I’m so grateful for what you do.… Read more »
You’re very welcome, Daniel 🙂
Gracias Paul, me encanta este Grupo, que bien que al final haya podido salir este gran maxi single!
De Nada 🙂
Another great post. Thank you so much, Paul. By chance, do you have this Force M.D.’s “Tender Love” vinyl single? https://www.discogs.com/Force-MDs-Tender-Love/master/70617
One of the very best obscure 80s, it was worth the long wait. Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome I was so excited to finally find a copy of this gem. Anyone else think that the vocals sound a lot like Daryl Hall?
Thanks Paul a million. Love this. Memory Of Your Name is a good single by them too. I wish their album would officially be remastered and released on cd with extra tracks. There was an Australian release from some years ago that’s pretty hard to get as it was an unofficial cd.
You’re welcome, Omar 🙂
I presume this is the same Pete Schwier who engineered a lot of Pet Shop Boys’ stuff?
Thanks for the detailed notes…always good to be able to make connections!
Yes John I think it is 🙂
