BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Good-Bye Bad Times” is a song by the British singer and composer Philip Oakey and producer Giorgio Moroder. It was written by Oakey and Moroder and recorded for the album Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder. Released as a single in the UK in June 1985 as the follow-up to Oakey and Moroder’s 1984 hit “Together In Electric Dreams”; it reached number 44 in the UK singles charts and remained in the charts for 5 weeks. It was moderately successful in Australia, where it peaked at number 26. In the United States, the single peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Dance chart on September 14, 1985 spending nine weeks on the survey.
Virgin records had high expectations for the single but it failed to sell in the quantities forecast. Because the single was not a huge success, it didn’t do much to promote the album. After a final single “Be My Lover Now” the short partnership between Oakey and Moroder effectively ended. Oakey then returned to work with his band The Human League full-time.
As a bonus track I have included the Brian Reeves remix taken from the US 12″.

Oh my God! missed this song, it rang on the stations in the rainy days of 1985 when I was only 10 years old … Thanks !!!
This track soars and I’m so happy you’ve shared it with us Paul. What drive and it’s a perfect track for all the bad times. Excelent!
Jeff
Love Human League – at the moment this single came out, I was about obsessed with them! Had no idea about this side venture with Georgio. Thanks!
Just to be accurate what you have called “Good-Bye Bad Times (US 12″ Mix)” is in fact just the standard UK 12″ mix. Only difference is in labeling…in all other territories it is listed as 2 tracks; In Transit (0:50) + Good-Bye Bad Times (5:40), but when you play they are mixed together as one (on ALL the non-remix 12″s including US) but just listed as 1 track only on the US copies. No issue with treating them a one track though as ALL sleeves fail to mention In Transit. It’s only the disc labels…but it’s not a US mix.… Read more »
I just called it US 12″ Mix because I lifted it from the OS vinyl.
I didn’t know about different remixes of this great single. I always loved the eighties collaborations between Giorgio Moroder and some great singer. Thank you Paul.
You’re welcome, Daniel 🙂
hi paul, thanks for another great release, and from one of my favorite artists. yes, i love the human league, but did not look into this solo album for a very long time. i do like some of the songs on the album and the singles also. i had the expanded cd release. but i didn’t know there was a limited remix of this song. so thanks for including it. it’s always nice to hear a new remix of a song you have heard before, and didn’t know about. it’s like an undiscovered present. thanks for the excellent work as… Read more »
You’re welcome -1 🙂
Thank you so much! I also didn’t know about these remixes so am grateful to get to hear them.
You’re welcome Dean 🙂
I always enjoyed Girogio Moroder and Phillip Oakey teaming up on tracks. Moroder’s electronics and Phil’s deep voice. Too bad the collaboration didn’t last, but we have the singles and the album. Thanks Paul for presenting this to us. Surprised that this follow-up to “Together In Electric Dreams” didn’t take off. Sometimes lightning doesn’t strike twice. I’ll never understand the music industry. The records I feel are going to make it don’t and the records that do, well, sometimes I don’t get it that way either. I just need to give up to the fact that my tastes are my… Read more »
I think you have great music taste, Jeff. Hope you were able to figure out how to use the new comment area. I also added a search box on the top left side of the site.
Paul, it’s working just fine. I was thrilled to get the reply in my in-box. Loving the new touches to everything. You always dazzle me Paul with the music, the layout of your site and the eye-popping graphics. BTG is a feast for all senses!!
Jeff
Two remixes of which I had no clue they existed? Thank you, Sir! 😉
You’re welcome 🙂
After listening to the version on the expanded CD, the US 12″ Version seems to be identical with the combined version of “Transit”/”Good-Bye Bad Times” (12″ Remix).
My second favorite ever single from them…guess the first! 🙂
I’m gonna say “Electric Dreams” 🙂
La verdad que no me acordaba de este tema, asi que te agradezco este aporte, no se si has visto mis mensajes enviados, en los cuales te consultaba por esos temas, pero quedo atento a tus grandiosos aportes, cada día me sorprendes. Solo mereces muchas estrellas.
Thanks Paul. I love Phil Oakey’s voice.
You’re welcome Omal. Philip’s voice is one of a kind 🙂
