I’m a little late, but thanks for this one. Homosapien’s like a two-sided single with Buzzcocks’ Orgasm Addict. Pete Shelley’s humor is very dry, but effective (OA’s opening couplet: “Tried it out once, found it all right for kicks / Now you’ve found out that it’s a habit that sticks “).
Hi!
Thanks a lot for these two Pete Shelley 12″.
Can you post the 4 track CD Single of “Homosapien II” from 1989, credited to Pete Shelley VS Power, Wonder & Love (it has a very nice techno feel).
it’s all about the b-side Homosapien (Elongated Dancepartydubmix) and of course the magic of Martin Rushent at the controls – Reading a comment above, I never knew this came out of the demos for the never made fourth Buzzcocks album – you can see with the third album A Different Kind Of Tension and the EP Pts 1-3 (which got reissued together as an American CD in 1990 – you can pick it up really cheaply) what direction they were going in with Martin Rushent and it would I think have been an amazing album. Though perhaps if the Buzzcocks… Read more »
Thanks Paul. A great blast from the past. Love this song and what a great mix.
Great track. Have you also heard the remixes issued in 1989 as Homosapien II? Worth checking out.
I’d love to see those mixes here. 🙂
The B-Side is one of the amazing Dub Mixes Martin Rushent was so good at. He did more for Pete Shelley plus other artists and of course The Human League too.
Martin Rushent helped define the eighties for me; he is greatly missed…
two new great maxis.thank you so much.Have a great weekend.
Thank-you! Another great song. Love the music you post! Speaking of Pete Shelley, you wouldn’t happen to have a 12” extended dance mix of ‘Telephone Operator’ would you? That’s my favourite song of his. Keep up the great work . . .
There wasn’t strictly an extended mix of Telephone Operator, but the B-side (Many a Time) was extended. On the UK 12″, which I have, there was also a dub of this track, while on the US 12″ there was a medley of the dub and Telephone Operator called Many A Telephone Operator (Scratch Banded).
Thank You!
Do you have The Puppets “The Way Of Life” 12”?
This a new one on me aswell. Looking forward to hearing this.
Thanks Paul 🙂
WOW… Never heard of this song nor this Pete Shelley but… I love this new wave style song. So 80s…
Thanks Paul! and keep on posting unknown music.
Waaaaahhhh????!!! Go and listen to a Buzzcocks’ Best Of! Slightly different to this but the voice and beautiful sentiment are the same.

Embarrassingly I didn’t know he’d had a solo career after The Buzzcocks, never heard this tune either. 😀
Thanks Paul. Looks very interesting!
Holy crap that b-side is amazing!! My first message, wayyy overdue. Thanks a million for all this great music!! Definitely put me in that early 80s new wave camp. Any more of this stuff lying around I would love to hear it!!
Hope to see more comments from you Clash City Rocker. I have many more New Wave gems that I plan to share.
Great Pete Shelley track. Some of his other singles, which a lot may not know about are teriffic too. Thanks Paul! Love your work! 🙂
Thank you Dave C. He does have some great singles.
Trivia: the “Homosapien” album was originally demos for what was supposed to become the fourth Buzzcocks album. Imagine a punk rock version of this, it nearly happened …
In fact, here you go, Pansy Division’s take:

Actually, I suspect it would have sounded more like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pa2fnQFgEc
This just made me go “WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AupUucSxlk
What a fantastic tune!!! I love it Paul. Brings back so many memories of the early 80’s. Plus the dub mix is radical!! Thanks again for this fierce flashback.
Jeff
You’re welcome Jeff!!
Awesome! Thanks for the Shelley material. I can never have enough. Now to dig into my 12’ers to see what I still have by him.
You’re welcome RA! I have a couple more in my collection 🙂
So cool. Thanks!
You’re welcome Conner 🙂
Awesome track. I bought the remaster of the album for b-side this song alone….. thanx so much DJ Paul
You’re welcome Risildowgtn 🙂
Thanks Paul once again for outstanding new wave!
You’re welcome Omar. I always prefer posting New Wave 🙂
What a great surprise! I’ve never heard the b-side before. Thank you Paul.
It’s a great mix Kookoo you will love it 🙂
The b-side was the version that was always played in my local clubs (in New Orleans).
You are right. This is a great mix!! Thanks again.
