Pet Shop Boys – The Menagerie Mixes (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1991

In 1991 the ON-USound labe released Pet Shop Boys “The Menagerie Mixes” which included two Mega-Mixes. “The New Mega-Mix” which focused mainly on tracks from the “Introspective” and Behaviour” albums. “The Classic Mega-Mix” which contained tracks from Pet Shop Boys debut album “Please” and the follow up “Actually”.

Pet Shop Boys are an English electronic dance music duo, consisting of Neil Tennant, who provides main vocals, keyboards and occasional guitar, and Chris Lowe on keyboards. One of the world’s best-selling music artists, Pet Shop Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide, and are listed as the most successful duo in UK music history by The Guinness Book of Records. Three-time Brit Award winners and six-time Grammy nominees, since 1986 they have achieved 42 Top 30 singles and 22 Top 10 hits in the UK Singles Chart, including four number ones: “West End Girls”, “It’s a Sin”, “Always on My Mind” and “Heart”.

At the 2009 BRIT Awards, Pet Shop Boys received an award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Thanks very much Paul! Didn’t have “The New Mega-Mix” but it’s similar to the version Hot Tracks remix. 🙂 🙂

Awesome! Thank you so much for posting these ON-USound series 12″. A lot of thought was put into mixing these and the later Euro-Miixx series obviously by the same person/people. Too bad we still don’t know who to give credit to! Back when they first came out I wrote to the address on the records and received my letter back – it was a fake address like many of the bootlegs at the time. All the ON-USound were released only on 12″ except for one Depeche Mode, Erasure, Madonna, and Prince which were ALSO released on CD single with very… Read more »

I meant that the 4 CD singles sounded better than the other CD “bootlegs of the bootlegs” that came out several years later. You are right they did use sources of varying quality.

OMG I remember buying this way back in 1991 at the VIRGIN MEGASTORE in Melbourne (Burke st store), I bought this and the PSB VS KLF mix of SO HARD (I never bought the 12″ of SO HARD for some reason although i really love it) anyway i taped them and played them over and over again until i wore it out and i taped them again but i sold them both years later but found them available on the net from various sites but not as good quality as yours, even though they came from CD. Thanks so much… Read more »

Hey Paul! Do you have any Pat & Mick 12″s or CDSs you can share? I’ve got a badly scratched CDS of “Use It Up and Wear It Out” and the non-stop mix CD “Don’t Stop Dancin” that fetches about $40 on Amazon… THe only problem is the CD was sourced and mixed from spotty vinyl masters back in 1993, so the quality isn’t the greatest. And it’s all one long 60 minute track, although I later split it up and burned my own indexed master several years back. Thanks for all you do. Your blog is one of the… Read more »

Olivia acted in Two Of A Kind, but yes, DJ Paul is One Of A Kind! LOL!
And the hits just keep coming!
Loving this string of Megamixes, finally I get the replacements for those bootleg 12″ I bought decades ago.
After the Madonna one, this PSB Megamix 12″ is my favourite. The brilliance of Neil & Chris is unmatched, especially in the lyrical department.
Am very excited about their forthcoming release.
Thanks for your rip, Paul!

Oh wow! Now, this is such a sweet surprise and I’m so glad that you shared this with all of us. I truly appreciated all the megamix posts from Wham! to this. You’re truly one a kind Dj Paul. Simply amazing!
