Paul, I must compliment you on the new BTG “retro dude” on your web site. You are a very talented artist too.

I love Paul Parker. So many fond memories of dancing in the clubs to his wonderful music. One of my Paul Parker favorite songs is One Look which has the best freestyle type beat with 80s Emulator voice samples ala IOU with Man Parrish on the production. Thanks for sharing one of Paul’s tracks. He is simply a true legend here in SF.

Another fun fact is that One Look was featured on legendary SF mixmaster Cameron Paul’s DJ only promo remix service on issue number 2. The medleys and especially year-end mixes were the best on the Mixx-It service. RIP Cameron Paul. Have a great weekend yourself.

Martika, your words mean so much. I am a Cameron Paul fanatic!! His remix service, Mixx-It, was a favorite of mine. And they just don’t put out remixes like his anymore. I lament the changes that have come to Hot Tracks (Select Mix) and Ultimix as well. Maybe the record labels are dictating the rules, but the creativity isn’t there anymore. I loved the sampling and the brilliant multi-edits of the old. A remix service version was the best version of the song sometimes and that rarely happens anymore. Audiences are so ADHD now, but if the version is hot… Read more »

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I used to love remixes from remix services. They always added some cool samples or changed the beats. Nowadays, it seems like they just add a 16-beat intro and outro and call it a remix!

Thanks Paul! Totally new to me and it’s quite catchy! Like Jeff pointed out, love the synths and guitars. Do you know if this charted at all? Nice to see Paul Parker carried the torch left by Patrick Cowley and is still going strong! Enjoy your weekend Paul, Jeff, Martika and everyone else here!!

Hey Retro Hound, I must tell you how much I appreciate you being a part of the community here on Burning The Ground. I know you are a huge rock fan, but you do keep an open mind to so much of what Paul posts. I think it’s so refreshing when one listens to things outside of their preferred musical genre. I wish more people would give the music here more of a chance. I always say, download the track and then, if you like it, maybe say something. No pressure for a response. If you don’t like it, you… Read more »

Hi Jeff, Wow that means a lot coming from you. I so appreciate what you said and I’m so thankful to be a part of this community. I love the fact that Paul has his super fans and you are number one on my list! It’s what makes this place special other than the music. Yes I’m a huge rock fan, but I do appreciate and like other kinds of music too, including dance music. You’re right, the diversity of people it brings together can’t be beat. Of course I love when Paul posts rock acts, like John Mellencamp, Billy… Read more »

This didn’t chart because this wasn’t released in the US, so any club play would have likely been from expensive imports a DJ had to purchase (as opposed to getting them free from a record pool that the US labels service).
His #1 club hit “Right On Target” was on Patrick Cowley’s Megatone Records, whose assets were later sold to Canada’s Unidisc. Not certain why he left after a couple of singles and label-hopped all his subsequent releases…

I love what I’m hearing, Paul!! This is an incredible tune, and it reminds me of something that would have come out in 1984. Not just with the synths, but with the strong guitar parts too. Mr. Parker is in great voice here and I imagine myself cranking this song a lot over the months. So sad (still) over the passing of Patrick Cowley. The man really knew his way around electronics and was able to write very contagious music. Have a very nice weekend, Paul, Retro Hound, Martika, DJ XREY and all the rest of the community here! Stay… Read more »
