Paul McCartney – No More Lonely Nights (Special Dance Mix) (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

A. Side

C. Hype Sticker“No More Lonely Nights” is a song written by Paul McCartney, which was first released in September 1984. It can be heard on the soundtrack, Give My Regards to Broad Street.

The single reached #6 in the US and #2 in the UK. In 1987, it was included in McCartney’s double album compilation, All the Best!.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of allmusic said the song was “an absolutely lovely mid-tempo tune graced by a terrific David Gilmour guitar solo.” In a radio interview prior to 1990’s Knebworth concerts, Gilmour told Jim Ladd that “No More Lonely Nights” was the last thing McCartney recorded for the film, and that he told McCartney to give his session fee to a charity of his choice.

The Arthur Baker remixes that appear on this US 12″ Promo are exclusive to this release and have never been released commercially.

Thanks a lot Paul !

I’ve never heard those edits, since in the CD were a little bit different.

The movie is a kind of a long video clip, very enjoyable, at least for me !

Thanks again for this!

Obviously your vinyl rips stand as pristine testaments on their own, but even your label scans are like beautiful works of art. I was just mezmerized staring into this flawless, crystal-clear Columbia label! Speaking of, Daft Punk’s vinyl release of “Random Access Memories” was pressed on 160 gram double Columbia vinyl, with that classic label design front and center on both records. Nice. 🙂

Thanks for Paul. you’re amazing.

Great song from a truly terrible film! Nothing screamed ‘vanity project’ much louder. 😀

I sat through the whole thing just last year after discovering Tracey Ullman was in it. The ending – argghh… shame on you Sir Paul McCartney.

Will be interested to hear these mixes, thanks DJPAulT. 🙂

Now I’ve heard them, I’m pretty sure these mixes (or a part of) appear in the film, the chorus sections sound familiar to me. However I’m not watching it again to find out! 😀

Small package now en route to you BTW Paul. 🙂

I think Tracey Ullman may be exchanging favours with Sir Paul who appeared in her video for They Don’t Know.

Also rather ‘strange’ to see Paul McCartney released on Columbia in the US. For me as a European Paul = EMI/Parlophone.

Stefano…
Heck, I live here in the States and it’s STILL a little strange to see McCartney releases on Columbia. But yeah… he was with them from roughly 1979-84 but stayed with EMI for the rest of the world. Most of his older albums were also reissued on Columbia during that time… I used to have “Band on the Run” on a Columbia CD.
You probably know all of this already (big grin) just posting for those who might NOT know.

Really enjoy the site, thanks for all the hard work! And Don Quixote by Magazine 60 is also on the Northern Exposure soundtrack – Northern Exposure: Music From The Television Series – but I’d love to hear the 12″ version!
