Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark – (Forever) Live And Die (John “Tokes” Potoker – Extended Mix) (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

A. Front

This is the first U.K. 12″ pressing for the Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) single “(Forever) Live and Die”. Remixed by American remixer John “Tokes” Potoker. The story behind this remix is that the band was not happy with it so it was withdrawn. Virgin Records had already printed about 5,000 copies crediting John “Tokes” Potoker as the remixer. Some of these copies did make it into record shops.

The band later went with the Tom Lord-Alge remix and ir was later released. I posted that mix back in April 2014.

The single was a Top 10 hit in Canada and many European territories, and a Top 20 hit in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. It was the last of the group’s singles to reach the UK Top 20 before Humphreys left in 1989, and Andy McCluskey continued OMD on his own.

Excellent! Thank.
I wasn´t aware the Potoker 12″ was withdrawn. So I´m one of the lucky 5,000 😉

This post represents why I’m a fan of this site. Rare or limited editions of songs from quality bands. Growing up in a small town, I never had access or the money to find such gems but it did not mean I did not know about these versions and never gave up looking for them. Thank you for ending a twenty five year search.

Oh and this a little late but thank you for the wonderful October posts. You really did well with themes and the cassette rip and an eight track album as well.

I think as i had a small problem i knew what the issue is. It’s because there are so many characters in the upload especially on track 1. Try and amend it. Amended mine to OMD – (Forever) [FLAC] foreverpotoker16.

Couldn’t get track 1 to play on my VLC media player for sometime till i amended the file to the short name above. Had this problem for years. It’s the same when extracting files if the names are really long it’ll miss them out. Had to amend one the other day to 1 character and 1 song still didn’t extract! I also have a problem with burning FLAC files onto CD which is why i have to download the MP3 & FLAC from Paul’s site. Then burn MP3 first and FLAC after. If i don’t do that and i have… Read more »

Awesome. Just a quick note that the title of the download is ifyouleaveotokermixmp / 16 /flac rather than foreverpotokermixmp / 16 / flac i.e. you’ve named it wrong!

Thanks for the mid-period OMD binge these past few days. You might get a kick out of my recent interview with them on the KEXP Blog.
