aaahhh thanks so much for this gem, Paul! Nice cover indeed, for this aussie release! I only have the repressing from the Old Gold series, wich has a standard cover. Although Breakin’ 1 & 2 have been the more romantizied versions of “Hip Hop” would look like in theses days, this track is so uplifting and typical for cool 80’s movies. Remember the OST from Beverly Hills Cop I, “Stir It Up” by Patti LaBelle? Or “Sweet Freedom” by Michael McDonald in Running Scared? Of course Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” for Flashdance! All these have the uplift of the 80’s 🙂… Read more »
Thanks for this electro week Paul – I love all these early synths and classic drum-machine soundz.
I watched a retro early 80s NYC travelogue recently, with kids just breakdancing and popping on street corners and in Central Park, and I wondered if anything as groundbreaking, exciting or transformative as Hip Hop could ever happen again. I think it’s the last big youth movement.
Great to have the instrumental version as well – usually you only get the vocal version on various 80s compilations. Thank you, this an 80s electro breakdance masterpiece!
Esperaba tanto ente single ademas la pelicula es buena una de mis favoritas.
Mil gracias Paul
Nice to see an Aussie pressing on your blog Paul!
I only got into the “Breakdance” soundtrack recently, although I’ve always loved that genre (Rock Steady Crew, Break Machine, etc.)
Another fav of mine is “99½” by Carol-Lyn Townes, I learned last year it was actually a single (didn’t chart here in Oz), and a 12″ also exists, so if you have it, mmmm.
Yeah I bought the Aussie pressing especially because I liked the sleeve the US version did not have a picture sleeve. I have posted Carol-Lyn Townes before but removed them because I am planning to re-rip them 🙂
Thanks Paul, love the buzz of this track, very uplifting..
Thanks as always for the rip! 🙂
You’re welcome Ex15 🙂
Excelente publicación y muy buen sonido como siempre. Grandes recuerdos se vienen a mi memoria con este tema que marcó toda una época en mi vida. Muchas gracias.
De nada Marceloide 🙂
I was never able to break dance, although I did try. Being quite obsessed with the Electro scene and buying quite a number of records, I could never get the knack of it. And today, it still surprises me that breaking and street dancing has continued going strong. I’m a huge fanatic for “So You Think You Can Dance” and I do love seeing how the genre has evolved and see how it has stayed the same. This song is such a classic. Although, not my favorite of the genre, I am excited because Jellybean did the mix and there’s… Read more »
