Burning The Ground Exclusive 1988
“Say This To Me” is a 1988 single by the Canadian rock/new wave band NEO A4. The song is a classic example of late 80s synth-pop, incorporating melodic synth lines, punchy electronic drums, and smooth vocals. The song reflects the era’s fascination with futuristic themes and electronic experimentation. Although the band NEO A4 did not achieve widespread fame compared to some of their contemporaries, their track stood out in underground and electronic music circles.
The song is from the band’s self-titled album (1988) and was featured in the movie “Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan” (1989), adding to the song’s cult status. It never appeared on the film’s soundtrack.
The legendary Colin Thurston produced “Say This to Me” giving even more weight to the song’s significance. Thurston was a highly regarded producer in the 80s, known for his work with major acts like Duran Duran and Talk Talk.
NEO A4 released four studio albums before disbanding in 1990.

Thanks a lot Paul for another great found. Keep the obscure 80s coming.
I saw Neo A4 when they toured Canada with Platinum Blonde, on their “Contact” tour in 1988. They played the old Ontario Place Forum. It was a great show!
I bought the LP that these songs were on after that show, as well as their debut EP, Desire, on cassette (the only format that I could find it on). Desire was also a good song, and it actually had a video which
was on Youtube last time I checked.
They got some airplay in Toronto in the mid to late 80s.
Thanks for posting this uber-rare 12”.
That’s amazing Mike. I would have loved to have seen them I know I would have become an immediate fan. I will have to look for that EP.
First time I’ve heard this, but it sounds like a rejected track from Duran Duran’s later period. The video is even derivative as well, but it’s all a product of the ’80s I suppose. They did 4 albums in 4 years, still they were never signed by a major label in Canada.
Pretty sure the video is fan-made. With Colin Thurston producing this record, it should have been a big hit.
Nice, I had one song by this group from 1985 that I liked… they were pretty obscure at the time… called “Look to your Heart”…. I like the rare stuff, thanks Paul !
You’re welcome, Low 🙂
So cool Paul!! Count me in for anything Friday The 13th… surprisingly this passed me by. Although admittedly, the formula was getting tired by the 7th sequel, Lol! Such a catchy track by, unfortunately, an obscure band. Do you know if this single charted in their native Canada? I really love how, this week especially, you are introducing us to so many ‘new’ songs from the greatest decade. Thank you Paul!
I have a soft spot for Friday The 13th Part 8 lol it’s part noir and horror one of my favorites in the franchise. I could not find any chart info on this band. I love the song though.
I should give it another view. At least they tried something different. I love Friday 1-5, and I have a soft spot for Part 5 with the whole whodunnit aspect. And like we’ve talked about, the inclusion of Pseudo Echo’s song His Eyes… perfect fit. On a separate note, gotta love Crispin Glover’s dance to the Lion song in Part 4!

Most excellent of you, Paul, giving us this cool song from such a cult movie! This spooky season is shaping up to be one to remember!
Jeff
Love this song! I think it might be my favorite of the year. I can’t believe this wasn’t a hit. Colin Thurston produced the track; he also produced Duran Duran’s debut as well as Rio, bassist John Taylor later described Thurston as “a major catalyst for the Eighties sound”.
