Meet the Ortofon 2M Bronze! I bought this new stylus last week and received it over the weekend. My old Ortofon 30 stylus was beginning to wear and after talking to the guys at turntableneedles.com decided that the Ortofon 2M Bronze would be a great replacement. You will be hearing the first rip with it later today.
The 2M Bronze features a nude Fine Line diamond stylus, which is particularly suited for demanding applications. The slim profile of the Fine Line stylus will track even the highest frequency information, making it a must for discerning listeners. Additionally, its larger footprint ensures reduced distortion and record wear.
The cartridge body used for the 2M Bronze is manufactured from a newly-developed Lexan DMX Piano Black, a revolutionary material which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.
We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M Series provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.
The 2M Bronze uses a special upgraded engine, featuring split pole pins with a silver plated copper wire.
Hi Paul, love your Pro-Ject Debut + Ortofon 2M Bronze combination… the only question is did you consider record it into DSD, with an affordable but quality DSD recorder, e.g. Korg MR-2000 or Tascam DA-3000?
BTW, for highest quality de-click, manually, I like to use Samplitude Pro X’s Spectral Cleaning module, very easy and effective.

Thank you for all the great music!!
Paul, this is my weapon of choice! This needle is a MONSTER upgrade!!! I plan on archiving my vinyl collection with this BEAST of a needle. The sound is CLEAR and FULL. About time my brother! Merry Christmas to you and the BTG fans!!!
Always wondered why don’t you use a MC cartridge, of course you can’t change the stylus and need a pre-amp, which shoots the price up, but I had just a basic MC setup, Ortofon MC-1 cartridge, average Pioneer pre-amp and the Technics SL-1210mk2, the sound was just mind blowing, incomparable even with the best Ortofon or Stanton club styluses, I just couldn’t listening to them anymore!
Not going Black yet? 😉
I love my 2m Blue! Didn’t know if going with the Bronze would be that much of a difference.
Would love to use the Ortofon 2M Black but the price is pretty steep. From what I have read the Bronze is a pretty big step up from the Blue you might want to check it out if you ever want to upgrade. Also turntableneedles.com has the lowest price anywhere.
Hi Paul,
I love Ortofon, the only thing I would buy in my vinyl days, and thanks as always for your continuing hard work!
ex15 🙂
Thank you Ex15 🙂
Paul,
As an avid Ortofon user from waaaaaay back in the late 70’s, as a professional DJ at the biggest, hottest clubs and an audiofile at home, all I can say is I can’t wait to hear the improvement this new cartridge might bring to your recordings. They already sound great so that will be tough to beat. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Alan please do let me know what you think.
Just when I thought your rips couldn’t get any better.
Thanks Paul
You’re welcome Clive 🙂
A good idea to change your stylus in time. By the way, your old OM30 had a Fine Line stylus type as well (Van Den Hul design), so it’s a good choice you didn’t downgrade your stylus type here. Curious to experience the tracking quality of this new 2M Bronze, specially towards the end of hard-cut records (that’s where it always becomes difficult, so to say).
I hope that you will be able to notice a change Stefano please let me know what you think 🙂
Thanks Paul, this is very interesting indeed.
It would be great to have a post dedicated to hifi equipment and ripping techniques.
I’ve been looking for a new system but it is hard to know where to start. I’ve looked at some of your specifications but it’s hard to know the significance and role of each piece.
If you ever have any spare time at all, it would be interesting to learn from your expertise and indeed from the expertise of those who visit your blog.
Thank you!!!
I would like to do that sometime Anthony and have thought about it so maybe I will get to it in the new year.
I totally agree with AnthonyC.
Paul!!! I can’t begin to tell you how much I love you and your site and…, well everything about Burning The Ground. Like I’ve said on numerous occasions before, I’ve never in my lifetime thought I would get to hear all the classics I grew up with in such amazing fidelity. Even more so than when I was making mix tapes with my old Technics turntable. I’d buy the twelve, and then I’d record it on a metal cassette tape, hoping it would be the best quality. A lot of those tapes are unfortunately gone and my beloved, but sometimes… Read more »
Thank you so much Jeff 🙂
