Lisa Stansfield – All Around The World (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1989

A. Front

“All Around the World” is a song by Lisa Stansfield released in late 1989 for her album Affection. It is her biggest hit to date. Written and produced by Lisa Stansfield, Ian Devaney and Andy Morris, the debut solo single by Stansfield became a massive international hit.

It spent two weeks at #1 on the UK singles chart in November 1989 and reaching the top in 11 other countries. In April 1990, it peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also the fifth single by a white female singer to top the Billboard R&B chart after Ella Mae Morse’s “Shoo Shoo Baby” (December 1943), Little Peggy March’s “I Will Follow Him” (May 1963), Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party” (June 1963), and Teena Marie’s “Ooo La La La” in 1988. The track also topped the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, and reached #7 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

This is one of the songs I like most from the 80’s era and both versions are new and like a fresh breeze to me.
Thanks a lot!

Timeless single that won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song in 1990, and it was inspired by Barry White! When Barry first met Lisa after its success, he told her that he recognized his influence in that single, especially in that spoke intro. And it was that meeting that later led to that duet version that was discussed in the earlier replies. Also, the “ay ay ay” bit was actually Lisa just mucking around in the studio during recording…but it ended up being on the final recording, and the trademark bit of the song! Thank you Paul for a… Read more »

HI Paul – I love all the 12″ singles by Lisa Stansfield. There are just many superb mixes particularly the U.S. Arista 12″ pressing that are not on the CD singles. It would be heavenly if you have some of those in your collection, such as This Is The Right Time, You Can’t Deny It, Change, Live Together, All Woman (b/w dance track Everything Will Be Better), Set Your Loving Free etc. Thanks for this post, once again. ;-}

You Can’t Deny It 12″ has that best mix (Gail Sky King one) that never made it onto CD.

Had already ripped my own copy of this and the UK Remix 12″, but the straight up Long Version is by far the best mix.

Anyone heard the Barry White duet version that was on a Japanese EP?

Probably the same version, the Japanese EP was just a little 6(?) track collection. Tis on Discogs and called Real Hip Selection, I think…

Thanks

Thanks Paul! To my knowledge, the American Club Mix has not been released on CD, but it was released on iTunes in 2006. I personally edit it into Part 1 and 2 at the 7:47 mark.

Received her first LP on vinyl soon after it’s release right from Switzerland accompanied with Soul To Soul’s 12″ “The Power” and Phil Collins 7″ “Another Day in Paradise” back in 1989.Bringing back good memories to me. Never heard the Long Version nor the American Club Remix before. It is still downloading, can’t wait to hear such perfectly produced song cleaned and arranged by you. Thank you, “THE KING” of 12 inches.

You are right SimonP, actually it was Soul II Soul’s “Get A Life” that I was referring to not Snap’s “The Power” , my mistake (it was done unintentionally while I was looking at my 12″ singles from 1989 and 1990). Thank you for noticing that.
