Kim Wilde – You Came (The Shep Pettibone Mix) (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1988

A. Front

“You Came” is the second single from the Kim Wilde album Close.

The single became one of the biggest hits of her long career topping the charts throughout Europe and reaching #3 in the UK Singles Chart. Although it did not continue her United States success, on the pop chart, it peaked at number ten on the dance chart.

The song was released during the summer of 1988, while Wilde was supporting Michael Jackson on the European leg of his tour (the video for “You Came” showed material from the concerts as well as backstage footage). With the Close album becoming a best-seller, this was arguably the point where Wilde was at the pinnacle of her career as “You Came” reached the top ten in charts all over the world.

The song was written by Wilde and her brother after the birth of his first child, Marty.

Hi Paul! Really great memory, this song! Any chance of more stuff from Kim in the queue? 🙂 … Especially from the Teases & Dares era?

How are you feeling at the start of this brand new week, Paul?
Having a restful long weekend?
I first bought the UK 12″ in 1988, but bought the US Promo 12″ only in the mid 90s (pre-mp3) and paid a hefty sum for it!
Thanks for ripping these Pettibone Mixes.
I was expecting this to be a big follow-up to You Keep Me Hanging On in the US. It didn’t even crack the Top 40 in the end. Peaking at a frustrating #41.

I wake up on my birthday to find this awesome post. My absolute favorite artist in the world and (quite possibly) my favorite song ever. Thank you DjPaul!

I have the US 12″ of this already, but it didn’t come with a picture cover so that was quite a surprise as well. Much nicer than the EU/UK picture cover. 😀

One more from my favourite artist. Thank you, Paul! 🙂

I’ve never been that keen on the song, though. I like it, but I always found it a bit cheesy. To me, other tracks from the “Close” album like “Hey Mr Heartache”, “Never Trust A Stranger” or “European soul” were so much better.

But the picture of the (US) single shows Kim at her prettiest!

I always loved this song. Thanks for the post, Paul!

Razormaid did a cool mix with “You Came” and “Stone” together and I think it was about ten minutes long. Check it out if you have not heard it before.

Very very nice to have the two dub versions! Thanks a lot Paul!

Universal is planning a reissue of ‘Close’ with bonus material (they refused to license the album to Cherry Pop). Hopefully Universal will produce a decent remaster.
