BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

Re-Rip Remaster

Originally I posted this one on August 10, 2010. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

This is the North American release of the single “The Second Time” re-titled “Go For It”. The single also contains different mixes than what appeared on the European release.

“The Second Time”/”Go for It” was also the first Wilde song of which there were several remixes released both commercially and promotionally on the 12″ format.

In the US the single reached #65 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a top 40 dance track reaching #31. The song was also used on season 4 of the US television show “Knight Rider” on the episode titled “Knight Racer”. In addition “Go For It” was also used on the TV show “Misfits Of Science” bothe shows aired on NBC just weeks apart.

DjPaulT, I think I this is my favorite Kim Wilde track. I am one of those remix type people so I like one and all alike. The whole 33 and 1/3 vs 45 really depends on many factors 45 RPM is typical better if the recording and mastering was done properly. The recorded material combined with the total running time per side does play a factor. In some cases it is literally not physically not able to cut at full power and the the cutting engineer may roll the low frequencies off (sometimes even at 33 RPM during especially during… Read more »

Always look forward to your re-rips because like Hojo said, Things Can Only Get Better! But my vote goes to the UK Mix as well. Thanks Paul!
A lot of these remasters more hit than miss, tracklisting is one issue, another is the less than desirable “remastering”.

Hi there DJ Paul! Thank you so much for re-ripping this mix. Excellent work as always! I think I was the one who pushed for this rip back in 2010 and I have to say, your rip is actually better than the one released on Cherry Pop’s Deluxe remaster of Teases and Dares! The quality on yours is cleaner and pretty much noise and “pop”-less, while those are oddly present on the “deluxe” version. Once again, thank you for exposing me to this particular mix years before I got my hands on the vinyl. As always, I look forward to… Read more »

I was expecting this to be your next post! 😉

To add some info, even though the 7″ was commercially released (with a poster sleeve), the 12″ was only a promo.

After having listened to both, I must say, I think I prefer the U.K.’s extended mix that you posted yesteday. 🙂 IMO, the U.S. version is a little too heavy on that “stuttering CD player” effect at times; it’s like whoever did the mix has just discovered this really cool new toy called a “sampling synthesizer”, and can’t resist playing with it. (Not that this mix is alone in that particular sin, to be sure.) On the other hand, this mix does contain the complete lyrics to the song, whereas the U.K. mix skips over a couple of verses. Too… Read more »

Actually, yes, that is true to a certain extent. It’s not so much that 33RPM inherently improves the bass, so much that the high end takes a slight cut due to the need to write higher frequencies in a smaller space. It’s essentially the same reason that you get improved frequency response at the high end when you record an open-reel tape at 7-1/2 or 15 inches per second, vs. 3-3/4 — or, for that matter, why you can write a paragraph of text more legibly on an 8.5×11″ sheet of paper vs. a post-it note. 🙂 By giving more… Read more »

Ohhh… I sense a Kim Wilde week comin’ and I’m getting retro happy just thinking about it. 🙂
I was actually looking at all my Kim Wilde collection last week and even watching some of her vidoes and recent performances. I must say she’s still got it and her voice is quite preserved.
I became a huge fan during the Another Step and the Close years. Thank you Dj PaulT for this post!

Kim Wilde… as a teenager I had a crush on her. Still think she’s hot!

Very much like these Kim Wilde 12 inches, Paul. Great choice to (re)post her work.
Mrs. Wilde deserves to receive lots of attention on this 80’s blog.
