Howard Jones – Look Mama (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

A. Front

Re-Rip Newly Remastered!

Originally I posted this one on May 25, 2010. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon Super 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

Released as the second single from Howard Jones’ 1985 album Dream Into Action, “Look Mama” reached #10 in the UK Singles Chart. It was not released as a single in the US, but a different mix to those issued in the UK was included on the US-only remix album Action Replay.

The introduction to the song features some spoken dialogue sampled from the 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

“Look Mama” is written from the standpoint of a child pleading with its over-protective mother to be allowed greater independence and room to develop its own personality.

Thanks

Thanks for this! HoJo singles are so great to come by. My version of this is so full of static from being played so many times!

Yes, one of the best tracks off his “Dream Into Action” album, The remix kicks ass! Is there a 12″ for “Assault & Battery” from the same album? I love your blog, it’s fantastic. Thanks for posting

Thank You Very Much Paul! I didn’t knew HJ work, rader than one song. The first time I heard Howard Jones it was with “No One Is To Blame”, I began to learn to play the piano with that song and is still my favorite…
And here comes the request… Is there a way you could post “No One Is To Blame” 12″? I will really apreciate it.

Again… THANKYOUVERYMUCH!

Thanks for this Paul. I’m sure (at least hope) you pulled it out due to the tour. If so, maybe a Midge Ure and another Twins post for the trifecta? 😉

I just saw HoJo last night in Chicago for the Retro Futura Tour! It was superb, especially HoJo & Tom Bailey. Thanks for the re-rip and the awesome reminder of last night! This track wasn’t played in his set. (Rob)

Yeah, he sacrificed at least one track doing an Eric Prydz “And Do You Feel Scared?” reprise of Things Can Only Get Better. Fun, but Look Mama or Life In One Day would have been better. Still, as great as his set was, Tom may or may not come back for another tour (who can say), and that was the real “get” here. Howard is a touring machine, and I know we’ll see him back before long; with or without major supporting acts.

Thanks Paul for this. I love Look Mama. Both Howard Jones and Tom
Bailey are touring with China Crisis and Midge Ure as we speak . Wonder if anyone here has seen them. I’m going on Sunday to see them.

Saw them in NYC, and it was so much better than I had hoped for. Tom’s voice REALLY holds up. HoJo pulled out the stops with the stage show – lots of whistles and bells – and Midge really belted out Vienna. Katrina (ex The Waves) and China Crisis were good lead ins, but I have to say I’d have preferred longer sets from Tom/Howard/Midge. I know I can’t wait for Tom to take to the road again when this tour is through.
